As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinema, I find myself utterly enthralled by the behind-the-scenes saga of Masti 4. The camaraderie and creative collaboration within the Bollywood fraternity never cease to amaze me, and this tale is no exception.
The Masti franchise starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani is loved by audiences for its comedy, mischief, and take on friendship. Recently, Milap Zaveri, who will direct the fourth installment in the film, shared that he came up with a story for the film and took it to Indra Kumar, who directed the previous three installments. However, Kumar was working on Dhamaal 4 after Ajay Devgn approved it. So, the lead actor, Riteish, suggested that Zaveri helm it.
Milap Zaveri collaborated on writing the sequel of the popular series titled “Grand Masti,” which ultimately achieved tremendous success. In a frank discussion with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube platform, the director revealed the backstory of how he joined the project to helm the production.
Milap mentioned that in 2023, two successful movies, Dream Girl 2 and Fukrey 3, were launched. He himself watched the movie starring Ayushmann Khurrana and was quite pleased with it. Later on, he expressed his congratulations to the film’s director and even made phone calls to Indra Kumar and Ritiesh.
Indra Kumar responded by saying that at the moment, he didn’t have a suitable plot for Masti 4, but then, writer-duo Neeraj Vora and Robin Bhatt stepped forward and came up with an appealing concept within a week.
A few days after the initial discussion, Kumar contacted both of them and informed them in his office that he wouldn’t be able to direct the film. Looking back on that conversation, he explained, “Indu ji had confirmed Ajay Devgan for Dhamaal 4, so I was planning to direct it, but Ritesh stated that if Indu wasn’t directing Masti 4, he would only agree to do the project under Milap’s direction.” (I got confirmation from Ajay Devgn for Dhamaal 4, so I intended to direct it. However, Ritesh told me that if Indu wasn’t directing Masti 4, he would only agree to participate in the project if Milap was the director.)
Due to this, the director of Satyameva Jayate 2 was recently approached to pitch a story for Masti 4. Remarkably, he was granted the chance to direct it instead. He expressed his gratitude towards Indra Kumar and Ritiesh for entrusting him with such a significant brand’s responsibility.
Nevertheless, the main performer imposed a stipulation as well. To echo his sentiments, Milap mentioned, “He made it clear that the film should steer away from vulgarity. Instead, we should create an entertaining, slightly mischievous, and crazy movie, much like the original.
The filmmaker expressed that both he and the actor share a unique bond as fathers of mutual friends, which makes creating an explicit film uncomfortable for them. Additionally, they aim to preserve the spirit of the initial movie in the series, as it was known for being a wildly entertaining and genuinely humorous production.
Due to sharing the same vision, Riteish, Vivek, and Aftab are teaming up for an upcoming movie, but the exact release date remains undisclosed as of now. The official announcement about this project was made in February 2024, and they unveiled its logo along with a crew photo. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it seems that filming has already started. Notably, this will be the second time Deshmukh and Zaveri work together since Marjaavaan.
