'How Does It Feel To Get What You Need?' Rachel Zegler Opens Up About Finally Achieving The Career Dream She's Had Since She Was 4 Years Old

As a gamer who has seen countless adaptations of Shakespeare’s works and followed Rachel Zegler‘s journey since her debut in West Side Story, I can confidently say that her Broadway debut in Romeo + Juliet is a dream come true for any performer. Having had my fair share of virtual adventures and quests, it feels like watching Zegler on stage is a real-life RPG where the protagonist finally reaches the final boss level.

Rachel Zegler, who’s 23 and gained fame with her film debut in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” has finally stepped onto the Broadway stage for the first time! If you’ve been keeping track of her journey since then, you’d know that her passion lies on the stage and she’s always dreamed of performing on The Great White Way. And now, that dream has come true! She recently opened up about realizing a desire she’s harbored since she was just 4 years old.

This week, previews began for Sam Gold’s adaptation of Romeo + Juliet at the Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway. Notably, the two actors playing the titular couple are beloved talents from the screen, Zegler and Heartstopper’s Kit Connor, and this project marks both their Broadway debuts. Taking to Instagram to honor this massive moment in her career, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actress posted a sweet carousel of images along with a lengthy caption of how much this production means to her. She wrote, in part:

Since I saw Beauty and the Beast at the Lunt-Fontanne when I was just 4 years old, starring Ashley Brown as Belle, I’ve nurtured dreams of becoming a) a Disney princess (confirmed) and b) performing live for audiences every night (confirmed). For many years, even as a teenager, I strived to seize the opportunity to tread those stages. Life took me in different directions for which I am eternally thankful. My passion for filmmaking persists, yet my heart will forever belong to the stage.

She’s thrilled to be able to tick off both of her major aspirations! Not only has she landed the role of Snow White in Disney’s live-action reboot (set for release in 2025), but she’s also managed to make her Broadway debut.

Disney Fans Have A Lot To Say About Rachel Zegler In Snow White, But I’m Surprised They Don’t Have More To Say About The Footage Dropping In The Middle Of The Night

Frankly speaking, I couldn’t have asked for a better casting choice. Just as I mentioned earlier, Zegler is embodying Juliet opposite Kit Connor’s Romeo in the latest take on William Shakespeare’s romantic tale. Interestingly enough, she made her big-screen entrance by portraying Maria in last year’s modern interpretation of another one of Shakespeare’s works, West Side Story. That movie, which you can now stream with a Disney+ subscription, was the stage where the world got to witness her extraordinary acting and singing skills. Ever since I watched her in that film, I’ve been eagerly anticipating her Broadway debut.

The actress, who shines brightly on the silver screen, carries an undeniable aura of belonging to the theater stage. In her own words, taking part in this play represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream, as the thrill and challenge of live performance has always been her ultimate ambition.

If you want to witness Rachel Zegler shine on stage, catch her performance in Romeo + Juliet at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City until February 16, 2025. It’s likely that she’ll go on to star in many more plays and musicals after this run as well.

However, don’t get it twisted, she’s not done with the screen by any means, as Zegler wrote “movies will never go away.” Along with the release of Snow White next year, her movies Spellbound and Y2K are also set to come out on the 2024 movie schedule on November 22 and December 6, respectively.

As she fulfills her long-cherished aspirations as an actress, there are plenty of opportunities for you to witness her talent in various films and stage performances. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed about any upcoming projects she has in store.
