How Eamonn Walker’s Wallace Boden Will Return In Chicago Fire Season 13

Contains spoilers for “Chicago Fire” Season 13, Episode 18 — “Post Mortem”

It was announced that Eamonn Walker’s character, Chief Boden, will return to “Chicago Fire” at some point, bringing relief to dedicated fans who have been waiting a whole season since his departure. However, it remains uncertain if there will be enough time to explore what happened to him after Firehouse 51. His upcoming appearance seems to promise an exciting and action-filled storyline instead.

In a press release, it’s been announced through TV Line that Walker will feature in an upcoming episode titled “Post Mortem” within the drama series in April. This episode is set to be presented in an unconventional manner, as explained by Diane Frolov (Chicago Fire showrunner) who stated: “The story unfolds using flashbacks and distinctive perspectives, with Chief Boden guiding our team on a quest to uncover the circumstances surrounding a violent firefight that resulted in tragedy.

Commissioner Grissom (played by Gary Cole) will ask Boden to unravel the mystery behind a fire that led to a building’s collapse and the death of a firefighter. This event forms the central plot of the post-mortem investigation, which necessitates Boden’s specialized skills. Although viewers may not know what Boden is up to currently, they can find solace in the fact that when last seen, he was embarking on an exciting new phase in his life as depicted in his heartfelt final scenes.

Boden left Chicago for bigger things

Last time we encountered Wallace Boden, he had been promoted, which meant he was leaving Engine 51 behind. Now, as the first deputy fire commissioner, he’s found himself working diligently in a different part of town compared to his old colleagues. Although they are off-screen from each other, it’s not that they switched jobs; rather, he’s handling tasks outside of their daily job responsibilities.

In the last episode of Season 12 titled “Never Say Goodbye,” he realizes that if he doesn’t challenge Danya Robinson (Laura Allen), she might secure the position due to her harsh methods. He discusses his concerns with his family, contemplates his aspirations, and applies for the post under Deputy Commissioner Gloria Hill (J. Nicole Brooks). She warmly accepts him, leading Boden to assume his new duties smoothly, marking one of his most compelling storylines on “Chicago Fire.

Though I had to bid farewell to my friend when he moved on from the 51 team, it’s heartening to know that Chicago now gets to welcome him back. As a fan, I can hardly wait to see him dive into a fresh enigma with enthusiasm and intellectual prowess.
