As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I can’t help but draw parallels between my gaming experiences and Anna Kendrick’s real-life encounter with George Clooney. In the world of video games, just like in movies, the characters we interact with can often leave a lasting impression.
This week, Anna Kendrick reminisced about her past experiences, expressing admiration for her 2009 ‘Up in the Air’ co-star, George Clooney.
Acting with George (Clooney) was like being around an uppercase G kind of guy who puts in a lot of effort to make you feel at ease,” said the star of ‘Pitch Perfect’, speaking to Chris Wallace from CNN, as she reminisced about filming ‘Up in the Air’ scenes with Clooney over ten years ago.
In our first scene together for the movie, Kendrick mentioned that it was actually his debut scene. We were both on a people mover, waiting and the camera was quite distant. He asked me, “Don’t you get jittery on the first day? I get so anxious. Don’t you feel insecure?” To which I replied, “Yes, George, I do. I can definitely get nervous and insecure.” He continued to express his doubts, saying something like, “I wonder if they picked the right person for this role?
Kendrick’s anecdote continued, “It wasn’t for years that suddenly that memory popped into my brain, and I thought, ‘No, he does not. No, he does not get nervous and he does not get insecure or worry that they’ve hired the wrong guy.’ Maybe that’s something he dealt with earlier in his career, but it was such a gift for him to say that because it felt like, ‘Oh, OK, I can bring my anxiety into the moment and someone is going to hold space for that and be cool with that.’ And it really, really set me at ease. And was a complete fiction.”
In “Up in the Air,” directed by Jason Reitman, featured performances from Vera Farmiga and Jason Bateman alongside George Clooney. Both Clooney and Kendrick garnered Oscar nominations for their acting roles, with additional recognition given for adapted screenplay, direction, and best picture.
