As a gamer with a keen interest in pop culture and a soft spot for reality TV, I must say, it’s quite surreal to see Josh Duggar spending his third Thanksgiving behind bars due to child pornography charges. It’s like a twisted version of the game “Prison Architect,” where instead of designing a virtual prison, you’re playing the role of an inmate yourself.
As a loyal fan, I can’t help but reflect on the recent developments concerning Josh Duggar, the eldest son from the “19 Kids and Counting” series. In 2021, he was convicted of child pornography charges and has been serving his sentence in federal prison. This Thanksgiving marks his third one behind bars, and it seems that he won’t miss out on turkey dinner, but rather, he’ll be enjoying a different kind this year. The latest reports suggest that he’ll have to continue adapting to this new Thanksgiving tradition away from home for the foreseeable future, as his release date is set no sooner than 2032.
This year, Josh Duggar is celebrating his third Thanksgiving at the Federal Correctional Institution Seagoville in Dallas, Texas. According to InTouch Weekly, the menu for this occasion features a roasted turkey, glazed ham, and vegetarian veggie lasagna as an option. The sides consist of cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and dinner rolls. Additionally, Duggar will have the chance to enjoy various pies with his fellow inmates. It’s worth mentioning that, as previously reported, the Texas prison also offers a Christmas meal and recreation.
It appears that Duggar’s third Thanksgiving in prison might resemble certain dishes we enjoy during the American holiday. Yet, it’s important to note that he is currently dealing with severe child pornography charges, which likely makes him long for participating in his family’s big gatherings instead.
Josh Duggar faced legal issues during the 10th season of “19 Kids And Counting”. In 2006, a report about sexual molestation accusations against him surfaced, which involved him allegedly touching inappropriately five girls, among whom were four of his own sisters. This incident ultimately led to the termination of the TLC series, withdrawal of reruns, and many advertisers withdrawing their support from the network. The allegations stated that these incidents occurred when Josh was between 14 and 15 years old, while some girls were asleep and others were awake.
In 2021, Josh was convicted for illegal possession of child pornography. This resulted in him being sentenced to serve 12 years and seven months in prison, with the earliest possible release date set for 2032. Upon his release, he will be subjected to 20 years of supervision during which he must register as a sex offender. He will also be prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors, including his own children and relatives.
In the popular TLC series’ family, Josh Duggar holds the position as the oldest sibling, and together with his wife Anna Renée Keller, he has birthed seven children. Since their offspring are all minors (with the eldest likely being 15), it is reported that Josh Duggar can only spend time with them under supervision.
In September 2023, Josh Duggar had wished for a fresh trial and put forth a request, however, this was not granted. Subsequently, he filed an appeal petition with the U.S. Supreme Court regarding his case, but the court chose not to consider it in June of this year.
