How The Rings of Power Finale Prophecy Teases the Show's Endgame

As a seasoned movie critic who has traversed through the cinematic landscapes of Middle-earth more times than I can count, I must say that the finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 was nothing short of breathtaking. Charles Edwards’ portrayal of Celebrimbor was a highlight, and his final words were a prophecy that will echo through the annals of Middle-earth.

The Rings of Power” brought significant disclosures about the show’s most intriguing secrets, and hinted at the plotlines for upcoming seasons. Although a confirmation for Season 3 is still pending, eager viewers can catch a sneak peek of what lies ahead through Celebrimbor’s final statements. The series has been gradually heading towards a climax that will ultimately unite Middle-earth and the downfall of the Dark Lord Sauron (portrayed by Charlie Vickers).

In Season 2 of “The Rings of Power,” Celebrimbor is subtly influenced and tormented by a disguised Sauron, leading him to create the rings known as the Rings of Power. Despite this, Celebrimbor eventually realizes the sinister purpose behind their creation during Eregion’s siege. In a final act of rebellion, he confronts his former friend Sauron (who has taken on the name Annatar, the Giver of Gifts). Here, Celebrimbor reveals one last vision foretelling Sauron’s downfall due to the rings’ existence. Charles Edwards, who plays Celebrimbor in the series, shared his thoughts on this prophecy with Vulture regarding the finale of “The Rings of Power.

My thoughts led me to compare this situation with the vision Galadriel had of Celebrimbor at the start of season two. It was a sudden, brief glimpse. There’s an underlying implication that the rings could lead to enslavement. Now that the process has progressed sufficiently, he seems to grasp that Sauron requires control to activate these rings effectively. He might have reached this conclusion as well. However, what I perceived was more like a fleeting vision in my mind, and he simply stated it.

Edwards’ character’s last words are skillfully compared to Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) initial vision in Season 2, where he succumbs to darkness and is left lifeless on a tree. However, his final scene turns out to be more optimistic than Galadriel had anticipated, as Celebrimbor correctly foretells the direction The Rings of Power is swiftly moving towards.

The Rings of Power’s Endgame is Now Clear

In its own merit, the Season 2 finale of “The Rings of Power” is impressive. However, it lays significant groundwork for a future cataclysm that’s fast approaching. Similar to the opening scene of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” Amazon’s streaming show will delve into the War of the Last Alliance – a crucial battle that marked Sauron’s defeat and the end of the Second Age. Now that the Nine Rings for Men have been crafted, Sauron’s only remaining move is to create the One Ring. Celebrimbor hints in his final words that Sauron’s fixation on magical jewelry will ultimately lead to his downfall – a foreshadowing of the Dark Lord losing his finger and the One Ring due to Isildur’s actions at the end of the War of the Last Alliance.

If a third season of The Rings of Power is announced, the conclusive war won’t be shown until the planned fifth season. For now, prepare for Sauron, who has taken over as the principal antagonist following Adar’s demise, to steadily expand his power throughout Middle-earth and initiate a cataclysmic event. Regrettably, Celebrimbor will not reappear, but his prediction will guide viewers through the most thrilling chapters of the narrative, revealing previously untold tales from the Second Age.
