How To Unlock Volbaino in The First Berserker Khazan?
In this game, Volbaino is an essential boss character that you’ll encounter during the campaign. You’ll battle him towards the end of Mission 4, marking his role as the final boss in your quest. Volbaino resembles a massive humanoid ox-like figure, armed with both a hammer and a chisel.
As shared by Elamein, Volbaino was once a friendly presence within Phrague Village. However, when the Dragonkin invaded, Volbaino was captured and subjected to continuous torture. The agony and suffering transformed this creature into a ferocious beast. Now, it’s up to you, the players, to intervene and curb its destructive rampage in Khazan.
Regarding its attack patterns, Volbaino bears a strong resemblance to the Viper, primarily utilizing swipe attacks that lead into either jump or slash follow-ups. However, unlike the Viper, Volbaino’s arsenal of attacks frequently consists of multi-strike combos. These combinations vary from 3-hit jump attacks to as many as 7-hit slash attack sequences. Moreover, Volbaino often performs burst attacks, capable of inflicting significant damage. Notably, when the boss’s health falls below 10%, it sets its chisel ablaze.
Starting from now, each attack and combo sequence of Volbaino will inflict Fire damage in addition. While Fire may not be as deadly as Poison, it can still cause substantial passive damage, particularly if your Vigor (Health Points) is low.
How To Easily Defeat the Volbaino
The Volbaino is undeniably imposing and deservingly so, as it serves as the final opponent in the early stages of The First Berserker Khazan. Yet, much like other bosses in The First Berserker or any Souls-like game, the Volbaino has vulnerabilities that can be taken advantage of. For instance, the boss is highly susceptible to being staggered, a trait that will prove indispensable for our upcoming strategy. Moreover, the arena where you battle Volbaino provides ample space to dodge its area-of-effect attacks. Additionally, most of Volbaino’s attacks can be parried, even the rapid burst combos.
In this situation, our main approach is to dodge or counter Volbaino’s assaults until the boss settles down. After it stands still, deliver a series of regular strikes or Spirit attacks to gradually decrease its Durability meter. When Volbaino starts setting the floor ablaze, escape from the boss and head to the upper platform. Repeat this sequence several times to swiftly defeat Volbaino.
Tips To Defeat the Volbaino
Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat the Volbaino:
- For the Volbaino boss fight, we highly recommend using either the Dual Wield or the Greatsword. This is due to two major factors. Firstly, since we’re going to be staying close to the boss, the Spear’s range isn’t going to be of any use. Secondly, both Dual Wield and Greatsword offer incredibly high stagger potential with their combos.
- Always start the battle with at least 4 Spirit charges. If you don’t have any spare Spirit charges, you can acquire a few via the Training Arena or by simply killing mobs close to the boss’ Nexus.
- All of Volbaino’s attacks have a long wind-up animation. As such, you don’t want to spam the block button; instead, press it in short intervals to easily parry most of the Volbaino’s attacks. For the burst attack, wait till you see a slight white outline around the burst counter glyph, and then press Circle or B.
- Parrying and countering Volbaino’s attacks will easily break its stagger gauge and offer you a free opportunity to dish out damage even before the boss imbues the chisel in flames. We highly recommend stocking up on Vitality Spheres to help recover stamina during the boss fight.
- When you see the Volbaino smashing the chisel on the ground, it’s your cue to unlock the camera and move to the upper platform. Again, when the boss tries to engulf the upper platform in flames, immediately unlock the camera and run to the lower platform.
- You can carry a few Fire Resistance potions to aid you against the boss. However, those aren’t really necessary. You can get rid of the Fire/Burning status by dodging a few times.
