How To Defeat Zoh Shia in Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1?

A guide on everything essential about the brand-new High Rank Zoh Shia, introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest update 1, including strategies to conquer it.

Monster Hunter Wilds, generally well-received by both players and critics, faced a significant criticism: it wasn’t challenging enough. But with Title Update 1, developer Capcom appears to have addressed this issue head-on, introducing what is arguably the toughest monster in the game – Zoh Shia. Although we got a glimpse of its abilities in Low Rank, High Rank is where Zoh Shia truly outperforms, offering a blend of spectacle and intense difficulty. Moreover, the High Rank version now comes with its unique armor set and weapons for crafting. With the right strategy and lots of perseverance, you can conquer the guardian of the Dragontorch.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Zoh Shia in Monster Hunter Wilds title update 1.

How To Unlock Zoh Shia in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Similar to Tempered Arkveld and Gore Magala, Zoh Shia is an advanced High Rank monster encountered in the game. To initiate the Zoh Shia Assignment (quest), you must first complete all High Rank story quests and reach Hunter Rank (HR) 50. Upon reaching HR 50, visit Werner at the Base Camp in Suja to begin your quest with Zoh Shia. Unlike other monsters, Zoh Shia does not have an assigned Optional Quest; instead, it appears as a random Investigation in Ruins of Wyveria, particularly during Inclemency, much like Tempered Apex Monsters.

Is High Rank Zoh Shia Similar To the Low Rank Variant?

To put it simply, while there’s a lot of similarity between the High Rank (HR) and Low Rank (LR) versions of Zoh Shia, they do have notable differences. The HR Zoh Shia boasts more health points (HP), defense, and deals considerably greater damage compared to its LR counterpart. Furthermore, it has unique attack sequences that can take you by surprise, particularly during its final stages. Essentially, the HR Zoh Shia is a beefed-up, aggressive version of the LR Zoh Shia, offering a more challenging experience for players.

Zoh Shia Weaknesses

In our tests, it was observed that Zoh Shia is highly vulnerable to damage from Dragon Elemental attacks. Interestingly, the Dragon Attack with the Critical Element skill proved very effective against this monster. If you prefer a Status build, keep in mind that Zoh Shia is also susceptible to Paralysis, Sleep, and Blastblight. While we haven’t tested the efficiency of Blastblight yet, given its effectiveness against Arkveld, it may work similarly well against Zoh Shia. On the other hand, Zoh Shia is resistant to Stun and Exhaust, rendering Flash Pods ineffective against it.

3. Tail (Can be severed and carved)

This information should help in your strategy against Zoh Shia.

How To Defeat (High Rank) Zoh Shia In Monster Hunter Wilds?

Much like the Low Rank variant, the High Rank Zoh Shia consists of three distinct stages, identified by the amount of Wylk armor it sheds. During the initial stage, Zoh Shia is primarily shielded by its armor, and even when damaged, this armor regenerates swiftly. However, damaging the armor in the first stage inflicts the most damage on the monster and causes injuries. These inflicted wounds remain on Zoh Shia’s body, regardless of the armor’s regeneration. However, as a Guardian, Zoh Shia has a strong ability to heal its sustained injuries. In the final stage, Zoh Shia discards all its armor entirely.

During Phase 3, I find myself targeting the vulnerable spots on Zoh Shia to inflict severe damage and ultimately sever its tail. It’s possible to deal damage to these weak points during other phases too, but it isn’t until Phase 3 that they can be shattered. Furthermore, Zoh Shia introduces three fresh attacks in Phases 2 and 3. The first resembles Xeno’jiiva’s ground slam, a powerful area-of-effect flame attack. The second is a lightning and flame combo, which Zoh Shia performs in Phase 3, often when it’s critically low on health.

In Phase 2, t

1. Phase 1: Focus on dodging the powerful attacks and striking when opportunities present themselves.
2. Phase 2: Be cautious during this stage as the AOE flame attack can be lethal. Keep moving to avoid it, and look for openings to counterattack.
3. Phase 3: Pay attention to the environment and use it to your advantage. For example, certain platforms can help you dodge attacks or get closer to Zoh Shia for a successful strike.

Phase 1

  • The first phase is fairly straightforward, you simply need to stick close to Zoh Shia’s head and deal damage to it.
  • Occasionally, the monster will perform a slam attack combo followed by a Wylk AOE. You can either dodge this combo or guard it to trigger a Power Clash.
  • Focus on dealing as much damage as possible to the head in Phase 1.
  • It’s best to focus most of your attacks on the head and the wingtalons. Attacking and breaking the armor on those parts is easy and also the best way to deal damage to Zoh Shia.

Phase 2

  • Phase 2 starts with a roar followed by a devastating fire AOE attack. There are two ways to avoid the fire AOE: the first method is to break the Wylk crystals that appear after Zoh Shia’s roar, and the second method is to run to the edge of the arena.
  • We highly recommend running (or using the Seikret) to the edge of the arena, which is the safest and much easier way to avoid damage from the fire AOE.
  • Other attacks in Phase 2 are similar to the Low Rank Zoh Shia.
  • However, do note that, unlike the Low Rank variant, High Rank Zoh Shia’s attacks deal a considerably high amount of knockback and damage.
  • You can also mount Zoh Shia in the second Phase, which is a great way to create additional wounds and get a free topple.

Final Phase

  • Phase 3 starts with another old roar, followed by a lightning AOE attack, reminiscent of the Extreme Behemoth from Monster Hunter World.
  • In Phase 3, you can break Zoh Shia’s weak spots and also sever its tail. As such, we recommend focusing most of your attacks on the head and the tail.
  • You can also target the wing talons. However, you can only land a successful hit when Zoh Shia performs a ground slam attack.
  • Make sure to keep your distance from Zoh Shia’s head when it starts a roar or stands on its hind limb to perform a breath attack. During this time, it’s best to stay close to the monster’s tail and deal damage to it.

Additional Notes

To sum up, keep in mind that Zoh Shia is designed as an end-game adversary. Therefore, it’s advisable to invest some time and develop a build capable of handling the tough 8-star monsters. We strongly suggest you use the Arkvulcan armor set combined with either a Dragon Artian Weapon or Arkveld Weapon, both of rarity 8.
