Nightreign is easier to manage compared to setting it up within Elden Ring itself. You can extend invites or set passwords for others to join your game. However, it’s important to note that Elden Ring: Nightreign does not support crossplay, meaning if you and your friends use different platforms, you won’t be able to play together.
Nightreign and some tips for playing with your buddies.
How Elden Ring Nightreign multiplayer works
In simpler terms, to join forces with your buddies in Elden Ring’s Nightreign multiplayer, navigate to the Matchmaking Settings within the Expeditions menu after opening the main roundtable. You can do this in two different ways that are outlined there.
As a fellow gamer, I gotta emphasize this: Set your Expedition Type to “multiplayer” to avoid embarking on a single-player journey through Elden Ring’s Nightreign. You see, there’s no buddy system in place for two players, meaning you’ll either be going it alone or team up with a group of three.
Invite friends to a team session
To join forces with friends from platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam, follow these steps instead: Gather your buddies and let’s get ready to play together! Here’s how:
1. Navigate to your platform’s friend list (Xbox network, PSN, or Steam).
2. Locate the friends you wish to team up with.
3. Send them an invitation to join you in a game.
4. Once they accept, you’ll be all set and ready to conquer together!
- Open the Matchmaking Settings menu and click the Invite Members button at the top. This opens your platform’s friend list.
- Select players from your friends list and invite them. When they accept, you’ll see all your names pop up in the top-right corner of your screen under the “Preparing…” heading – other players can’t join you in the Roundtable Hold.
- Choose an Expedition and make sure all other players also choose the same one. If there are three of you in the same to session together, the Expedition will begin shortly. If there are only two of you, matchmaking to find a third will automatically begin and the Expedition will start once a third player has been found.
Set a multiplayer password
1. Choose a password that is easy to remember but difficult for others to guess.
2. Set this password on your character when you want to summon help or join another player’s world.
3. The other player must also set the same password on their character, allowing you to connect and collaborate in defeating the boss together.
- Open the Matchmaking Settings tab, select the box under the Multiplayer Password heading and set a password. This can be made of any alphanumerical characters so your password could be “1234”, “final boss”, or “poggers”, for example.
- Next, look at the No. of password players setting, which determines how many players you’ll match with using the same password as you.
- If you want two players to join you for a full team of three, set this to “three players”. If you want only one player to join you, meaning the third player will come from matchmaking, choose “two players”. Crucially, all players must have the same setting!
- Start an Expedition to begin matchmaking and make sure the players you’re trying to team up with also pick the same Expedition.
Eventually, this process will lead you into multiplayer games with other users, though it may occasionally falter and fail to find compatible players due to mismatched passwords. To ensure seamless matches, I’d strongly advise making friends in the community! Then, you’ll immediately proceed to selecting your Elden Ring Nightreign characters.
