As a lifelong fan of the enchanting world of Berk and its winged wonders, I eagerly await the upcoming live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. Having grown up with Hiccup and Toothless in the animated trilogy, their return to the big screen feels like a nostalgic dream come true. The teaser trailer promises a cinematic spectacle that will surely leave me awestruck, especially given the impressive visual effects that have become synonymous with this franchise.
Witness an unprecedented pairing of Hiccup and Toothless in the teaser trailer for DreamWorks’ fresh take on How to Train Your Dragon, helmed by Dean DeBlois, a veteran from the franchise. This live-action adaptation promises an extraordinary fantasy journey that will hit theaters broadly next summer.
In this adaptation, Mason Thames (from “The Black Phone”) assumes the part previously played by Jay Baruchel as Hiccup, a shy Viking youth from the harsh Isle of Berk. After centuries of conflict between his tribe and dragons, he forms an unlikely friendship with a mysterious dragon known as a Night Fury, breaking the cycle of violence. As DeBlois, who began the original trilogy (based on Cressida Cowell’s popular book series) alongside Chris Sanders in 2010 before taking over as both writer and director for the sequels, recently explained to Empire, the stakes are significantly heightened with a realistic, photo-real dragon menacingly prowling around and attempting to eliminate Hiccup.
As an ardent fan, I find myself drawn into the heart of the story where the courageous warrior Astrid (Nico Parker) and the eccentric blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost) join forces with me, Hiccup. The official synopsis reveals that we’re embarking on a journey through a world shrouded in fear and misconception. An ominous ancient threat looms, threatening not only Vikings but also our beloved dragons. My unique bond with Toothless takes center stage as it becomes the catalyst for crafting a promising future. Hand-in-hand, we tread carefully along the precarious path toward peace, venturing beyond the confines of our worlds and reshaping the very essence of heroism and leadership.
Among the talented actors joining this production, I’m thrilled to see Gerard Butler reprising his role as Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s father. Joining him are familiar faces like Julian Dennison from Deadpool 2, Gabriel Howell from Bodies, Bronwyn James known for her work in Wicked, Harry Trevaldwyn from Smothered, Ruth Codd starring in The Midnight Club, Peter Serafinowicz recognized for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Murray McArthur, a cast member from Game of Thrones. I can’t wait to see them all bring their unique talents to this project!
