In case you’ve recently started playing Title Update 1 in Monster Hunter Wilds, chances are high that you’re curious about how to get hold of Mizutsune, a returning monster beloved by the series enthusiasts. Defeating this creature will not only offer a new hunt but also new equipment for crafting. However, before you can do that, there are some prerequisites to fulfill.
Although you might be having trouble finding the elusive Wudwud named Ayejack to unlock Alma’s new spectacles, let me guide you on how to unlock Mizutsune in Monster Hunter World instead:
1. First, complete the main story quest “A Ceasefire” and reach Hunter Rank 8 or higher.
2. Speak to the Research Commissioner in Astera to receive a quest called “The Tidal Threat.”
3. Follow the quest marker to reach the Anomaly, where you’ll find Mizutsune.
4. Hunt Mizutsune and defeat it to unlock its materials for crafting new equipment.
Monster Hunter Wilds Mizutsune unlock
To hunt Mizutsune in Monster Hunter Wilds, you have to do two things:
- Raise your hunter rank to HR 21
- Complete the Spirit in the Moonlight extra mission
Once you attain the right hunter level, Alma informs you that Kanya, a familiar face from various fishing missions, wishes to discuss something with you at her customary spot within the Scarlet Forest base camp’s rear area. Kanya will ask for your aid in addressing a critical issue regarding fishing for the Wudwud tribe and her frequent angling companion, Mastangler, who you commonly see fishing alongside her.
After teaming up with Kanya, you’ll venture into the forest in pursuit of the elusive Wudwud, as part of an optional mission called “Spirit in the Moonlight”. During this adventure, you’ll encounter Mizutsune, a formidable monster that you must defeat. Upon successfully subduing it, return to base camp to make it available for regular hunting sessions. As a reward for your efforts, you’ll receive five Great Sushifish Scales, five Whetfish Scales, and ten Jeweled Mullet Roe.
If you’re having trouble defeating Mizutsune, make sure to equip weapons that are ice, thunder, or dragon element. When attacking, focus on its head if possible. After successfully completing this, if Mizutsune isn’t appearing in optional quests, it may be further down the list since you might have unlocked hunts beyond HR 21—look for the “Bubbling Crimson Flowers” quest to locate its hunt.
