From 2010 onwards, Parmeet Sethi devoted his talents primarily to acting in both TV and cinema. At some stage, however, he chose to change direction and focus on writing as well. Following his work with Badmaash Company, Parmeet penned an epic story about the life of renowned Indian wrestler Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt (also known as The Great Gama). The role was intended for John Abraham, but the project didn’t materialize because another script with a similar theme, for Salman Khan’s Sultan, was released instead.
According to SCREEN’s report, following the completion of the script, Parmeet Sethi initially contacted Aditya Chopra. Unfortunately, at that time, Chopra couldn’t back the project because he was already working on a movie with a similar theme featuring Salman Khan.
Unwavering in my resolve, I approached John Abraham, who graciously consented to star in and co-produce our film. Regrettably, our plans were put on hold as Salman Khan unveiled his own project revolving around the same subject matter.
This obstacle temporarily halted Parmeet’s progress in filmmaking, leading him to resume his acting career. When looking back at that time, he commented, “It’s necessary to keep earning income.
Parmeet Sethi disclosed that the main cause for his break in work was his persistent effort to make a personal project happen. He elaborated by saying that he penned a script centered around the iconic wrestler, The Great Gama, and presented it to Aditya Chopra.
Yet, Chopra had recently approved a script with a wrestling theme called Sultan, featuring Salman Khan. This reminded Parmeet of when Chopra mentioned to him that creating two movies centered around the same topic was not practical.
Despite feeling let down, Parmeet Sethi chose to heed Aditya Chopra’s counsel and seek backing outside of Yash Raj Productions. He acknowledged that Chopra was thoughtful and motivated him to consider alternative paths, going as far as to offer aid during this new exploration.
Later on, Parmeet contacted John Abraham, who found the script captivating and consented to star in and finance the movie. The venture appeared to hold great potential, so the group started planning ahead. Regrettably, within a month, Salman Khan disclosed a film about the same topic.
Consequently, the studio chose to withdraw from the project due to a conflict in themes and because Khan’s announcement overshadowed it. In the end, the project was put on hold.
After Khan declared his project as official, concerning the same topic, Parmeet and John found themselves with no other option except to forsake their movie production. “It truly saddened me,” Parmeet confessed, further mentioning that John shared the same feelings of disappointment.
1) He said the script is outstanding, and he’s convinced it could still produce an extraordinary movie today. The long break in his acting career, as he put it, was due to difficulties that occurred between 2010 and 2015. Eventually, these obstacles pushed him back towards acting.
