Hrithik Roshan, Ameesha Patel were forced to leave theater mid-way while watching Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai; actress reveals WHY

Today, January 10, Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel’s debut movie “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai” is back in cinemas, with its original release anniversary being on the horizon in just a few days. This film was a massive hit upon its initial release, propelling both actors to fame. Interestingly, during their first screening of the movie, they had to exit the theater prematurely due to fans’ overwhelming response during the intermission.

In a recent conversation with News18, Ameesha Patel looked back at the significant shift her life underwent following the premiere of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000. Recalling those days, she mentioned that she and Hrithik Roshan attended the movie screening at Eros Theatre in Churchgate alongside the general audience.

Although she was aware that the movie was a hit with a packed audience and a successful premiere, Ameesha confessed that she hadn’t fully realized the extent of the situation at first. She also revealed her initial lack of understanding about what constitutes a ‘blockbuster opening’, as Hrithik Roshan had a better grasp of the industry dynamics back then.

She mentioned that during the break, the two of them chose to leave for a quick bite and drink. However, when the break concluded and the throng exited, the pair found themselves inundated with attention and had to hastily depart. In essence, she explained, “As soon as the break ended and people started leaving, we had to scram because everyone was swarming us. From being just two kids sharing sandwiches, we suddenly became celebrities.

As an ardent admirer looking back, I can’t help but reminisce about the whirlwind of stardom that swept over me, personified by none other than Ameesha Patel. From being mere mortals, she and Hrithik transformed into sensations overnight. Our on-screen characters, Rohit and Sonia, ignited a nation’s heart, leaving an indelible mark on the audience. I confess, I was left in a state of stunned disbelief for days, struggling to comprehend the speed at which my life had been turned upside down. The entire experience seemed like a dream, a surreal twist of fate.

As her popularity soared, her phone became a constant source of calls, and admirers swarmed wherever she appeared. She expressed the sensation of being idolized, highlighting the extra pep in her stride. Regardless of where she went—airports, eateries, fitness centers—she was identified, with people clamoring for autographs and selfies.

She remembered her initial live show alongside Hrithik in Kolkata, a time when the arena was overflowing, and the audience clamored for another performance, repeatedly shouting, “Again, again!

Ameesha looks back fondly on some of the unusual fan interactions, where people would offer her money and photographs of deities, asking for her signature. These experiences were overwhelming, and she has always declined such requests, a practice she still follows today. Fans would sometimes extend their hands, exclaiming they wouldn’t wash them after she touched them.

What really thrills her is the lasting impression that her and Hrithik have made on spectators. Pondering over how, even after 25 years, they remain iconic, consistently delivering successful films and esteemed as fitness role models, she expressed her appreciation for the continuous affection and backing from the audience.

In the movie “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai,” directed by Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel star as the main characters. Notable actors like Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, and Mohnish Bahl took on important supporting roles in this production.
