As a seasoned mobile gamer and tech enthusiast with a soft spot for mid-range devices, I must say that the HTC U24 Pro has certainly caught my attention. The phone’s affordability is a breath of fresh air in today’s high-end smartphone market, making it an attractive option for those who don’t wish to break the bank.
At our home, we usually have some mid-range Android phones on hand. Upon initial glance, the HTC U24 Pro appears affordable, slender, and stylish. It’s not designed primarily for gamers with extra gaming features, but it’s a phone that warrants consideration for everyday use. In this review, I will be evaluating this phone from both a casual gaming perspective as well as its suitability for typical mobile phone tasks.
The Phone Itself
For specifications, I classify this phone as a mid-tier model; it boasts the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, placing it among the elite in the mid-tier range.
The screen has a slight curvature at the edges, which can make gaming tricky because the buttons often follow this curve, making them harder to touch or partially obscured visually. This might be subjective as it depends on personal preference; I also struggle to find cases that fit the curved edge effectively and would never use a phone without a protective case.
The HTC U24 Pro has a brilliant and vibrant 6.8-inch OLED display with fantastic backlighting. The colours feel like they really pop when playing games and everything looks pretty stunning.
Transferring data from one Android phone to the HTC U24 Pro was quick and painless. After signing into Wifi, I could just use the included USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the phone to my old phone, transferring all of the data in very little time. The phone also charges with a USB-C cable, so that’s nice and easy.
You can password-protect your phone with a digit-based code or set up a thumbprint to scan each time you want to access the device. It also has room for two SIM cards within the phone, if that’s something you need.
The Phone Cameras
I feel like phone cameras are equally as important as how phones run. The front-facing camera has a default beauty slider added to your selfies, which I always feel is gross. For a freckly-faced human like me, it makes my entire face one colour and smooth, which makes me look like some weird doll. You can easily turn this down or completely off, which is good. Otherwise, the selfie camera feels good and takes pretty pictures!
The triple cameras situated at the front of this device produce stunning images, while the back cameras are equally delightful. Located at the bottom bar is a Pro setting, offering various photo stats during capture, useful for photography enthusiasts. Additionally, there’s an AI feature that automatically enhances your photos by adding smiles to those who aren’t smiling in the shot, thereby improving overall quality.
