However, I believe that Season 3 has been the most compelling yet, which is why I can’t wait to see what more this standout Amazon Prime original TV show has in store for its next comeback.

Although news of Reacher‘s Season 4 premiere was made known prior to the third season’s streaming availability on Amazon Prime, there are still several unanswered questions about Jack Reacher’s upcoming encounter with more trouble. Questions I Have About Reacher Season 4

After watching the show since it first started, I have a fairly good sense of what the fourth season might entail. However, there are still some aspects of the upcoming season that remain a mystery to me.

What Book Will Reacher Season 4 Adapt?

Normally, when it’s announced that there will be a new season of “Reacher”, this is often the first question people ask: Which book from Lee Child’s series will the show adapt next? After Paramount produced two feature films in 2012 and 2016 (based on “One Shot” and “Never Go Back”), the first season of the show drew inspiration from the author’s debut novel, “Killing Floor”. However, instead of following a linear progression, Season 2 jumped to the 11th installment, “Bad Luck and Trouble”, and Season 3 went against the grain by adapting the seventh Jack Reacher novel, “Persuader”.

By March 2025, it’s anyone’s prediction which of Child’s 29 books will inspire the upcoming television season. However, the author hinted to The Independent in February that his preferred choice would be his 22nd novel, “The Midnight Line” published in 2017, where Reacher confronts the illegal opioid trade. Given the contemporary significance of this theme, I believe it’d make an excellent foundation for Reacher’s next on-screen escapade. But what if the series decides to explore a different path instead?

Will Reacher Season 4 Be An Original Story Instead?

It’s clear that the character Reacher wouldn’t exist without Lee Child’s celebrated writing. His stories have ignited some of the most thrilling, engaging, and enjoyable TV I’ve ever watched during my lifetime. But here’s a thought: are there any fellow fans like me who would be intrigued if Season 4 deviated from the novels and told an entirely new story instead?

In the course of this series’ remarkable success so far, it seems fitting for the creators to explore uncharted territory and surprise even the most dedicated fans by placing Reacher in an unexpected predicament. There’s no shortage of material from the books left for Santora and the team to draw upon, but I believe they will have ample opportunities to adapt those stories in subsequent episodes. Given this, taking a risk and deviating from the source material at least once might prove worthwhile.

How Much Will Neagley Be Involved This Time?

In Lee Child’s sixth book, “Without Fail,” Reacher’s longtime friend and former colleague, Frances Neagley, was first introduced. However, in a departure from the books, Maria Sten portrayed this army ranger turned private investigator in a four-episode arc during Season 1 of the television series. Since then, Neagley has essentially become a co-lead. This leads us to wonder if Reacher might lose his co-lead in Season 4?

Before Season 3 debuted, Amazon announced that Neagley would lead her own spin-off series, which Sten revealed was in production with an Instagram post from February 2025. Considering that the fourth set of episodes still have some time before the cameras start rolling, it is not completely out of the question that the breakfast cereal-loving badass could be involved in some way. However, I imagine that her screen time will be significantly reduced from her starring role in Season 2, much like it was for Season 3.

Will Tom Cruise Make A Cameo?

Currently, I haven’t watched the movie adaptations of Lee Child’s books, “Jack Reacher” from 2012 and “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” from 2016. However, having been impressed by Colm Meaney’s portrayal, I’m eager to see how Tom Cruise, the original Jack Reacher, compares. I plan to catch up on these films using my Paramount+ subscription at a later time.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve come to appreciate that some fans feel Tom Cruise, standing tall at 5’7″, might not have perfectly embodied the physicality of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher character in the “Mission: Impossible” series. However, Jonny Ritchson made an admirable gesture by penning a letter expressing respect and gratitude to Cruise – unfortunately, it seems this missive never reached its intended recipient, as Dan Granger from Skydance revealed that Cruise has moved on. Nevertheless, I can’t help but imagine how exciting it would be if Cruise graciously acknowledged Ritchson’s portrayal by making a brief appearance alongside him in the series, perhaps as someone from Reacher’s past.
