‘I Can’t Enjoy The Film’: Brenda Song Admits She’s Never Watched One Of Her Movies, And She’s Seriously Missing Out

As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that not every actor in Tinseltown enjoys watching themselves on the silver screen. For some, like Ben Affleck, it’s specific roles they find difficult to stomach, such as his portrayal of Daredevil. Others, myself included, have a self-imposed rule that keeps us away from our own performances, fearing we might miss out on even more fantastic projects. This is the predicament Brenda Song finds herself in, as she grapples with watching any and all of her acting endeavors, including her role in The Social Network cast.

The 2010 biographical film, titled “The Social Network,” features Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg and portrays the development of Facebook into the worldwide social networking site it is today, along with the lawsuits that its billionaire creator, Zuckerberg, faced during its creation. Christy Lee, a character played by Rooney Mara (who was deservingly nominated for an Oscar for her role), was a former Harvard student and admirer of Zuckerberg’s work who eventually dates co-founder Eduardo Saverin, portrayed by Andrew Garfield. The most memorable scene involving Lee depicts her setting Saverin’s trash on fire after discovering he hadn’t changed his relationship status from single on the site. Despite having a minor role in the movie, Lee finds it hard to watch the film herself. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she admitted:

Oh dear, I truly dislike seeing myself on screen. Every time I mention that I’m sad about being in “The Social Network,” it’s because I can’t appreciate the movie for what it is. Despite only appearing in one scene, I find it difficult to enjoy the film as a whole. If only there was a way to cover my face while watching it.

Being deeply enamored with “The Social Network” and its intriguing backstory, Song’s scene is one of those unforgettable moments that constantly replay in my mind. It’s hard to believe she hasn’t seen it! Not only does this mean she’s missed out on a brilliant portrayal of her character, showcasing her dramatic skills after years as the amusing London Tipton on Disney Channel, but also on an iconic film as a whole.

In the realm of bio-dramas, “The Social Network” stands out as one of the best ever made. Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield deliver exceptional performances, surprising many who initially doubted their ability to pull off the roles due to early apprehensions that they might not do justice to the parts. This film has become deeply ingrained in our cultural consciousness, so much so that a sequel is rumored to be under development.

Maybe one day, Brenda Song will have an opportunity to watch the movie when her children grow older and discover it themselves. For now, she’s preparing for a comeback on television in the Netflix sport-comedy “Running Point,” co-starring with Kate Hudson.

Actress from The Last Showgirl takes on the role of Ali Lee, a Chief of Staff for an LA basketball team. It’s expected that she will assist Hudson in adjusting to her new position as President of the franchise following her brother’s resignation. This series is slated for release by Netflix in 2025, with its premiere scheduled for February 27. The show has generated a lot of excitement, with many fans drawing comparisons between it and Hudson’s performance in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.

As Song passes up the opportunity to watch “The Social Network,” you don’t have to! This contemporary masterpiece is available for streaming with a Prime Video subscription.
