I Decided To Rewatch The Parent Trap And These Are 5 Things I Appreciate More As An Adult

I recently chose to re-visit the movie “The Parent Trap,” and I must confess, my appreciation for it has grown significantly since my younger years.

As a child, I was deeply enamored with Lindsay Lohan. I adored her, truly. When I learned that “Freaky Friday 2” was in production, my excitement knew no bounds as Lohan’s films were among my favorites during my childhood years. Regrettably, it appears this long-awaited sequel is not scheduled for release in 2024, but I remain hopeful and eagerly anticipate its eventual premiere.

Despite this, Lohan’s films held a special place in my heart growing up, with “The Parent Trap” being one of my all-time favorites of hers. This was a remake of a 1960s movie by the same name. As a child, I watched this film repeatedly, as I proudly admit. However, it had been a while since I last saw it, so I chose to revisit it as an adult. I Can’t Get Over How Lindsay Lohan Played Two Entirely Different Characters 

Like, let’s be honest here – Lindsay Lohan did that. 

Over the past few years, I’ve been thrilled to see Lindsay Lohan making a comeback in romantic comedies. Films like “Falling for Christmas” and the upcoming 2024 Netflix original “Irish Wish,” where Lohan shines, have truly brought joy to me as a fan. Despite her challenging past experiences in Hollywood, it’s heartening to see her back on our screens once more.

Although we often recall her as the leading actress in “Mean Girls,” “Freaky Friday,” and “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” Lohan’s acting career actually started when she was much younger. Her first movie was none other than “The Parent Trap.”

This girl, around 10-11 years old when the footage was recorded (prior to 1998), portrayed not just one but two distinct characters.

The first time I saw that movie, I was taken aback by Lohan’s performance. I couldn’t help but think she had a twin playing the other role because the contrast between the two characters was so striking to me. Yet, she managed to captivate audiences with her portrayal of two distinct personalities, leaving an indelible impression on many young viewers.

I’m amazed by her exceptional talent, and I find it hard to believe that this was her debut performance in a movie. It’s truly remarkable for a child to shine so brightly in their initial acting role. I’m still in disbelief.

Also, Hallie And Annie Are Actually The Cutest Sisters Ever, And I Love Them Even More 

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have an older brother, yet I lacked the experience of having a sister. Though my bond with him is unbreakable, the dynamic of a sisterly relationship eluded me. Many of my cousins and friends with sisters raved about their special connections, and they described Annie and Hallie as the epitome of sisterhood.

It’s funny, because even when they meet initially, they’re basically rivals – like most sisters half the time. You love them, and you hate them because they are infuriating to you. At the end of the day, though, you would legit die for them. Hallie and Annie fight at camp, but once they realize they have a lot more in common, they end up loving each other – and then scheming to get their parents back together. 

The bond of friendship and sibling affection in this film becomes more profound as the story unfolds. I hadn’t fully grasped this concept as a child – these seemingly unacquainted individuals work harmoniously together and execute their strategy, which they firmly believe is the most effective one. Their unwavering support for each other through adversity is a sentiment that resonates with me, even without experiencing sisterhood personally.

Can We Talk About What Good Parents Both Nick And Liz Are? 

If you’re familiar with my movie preferences, you’d know that while I enjoy some classic romantic comedies, they don’t typically capture my attention first. Instead, I lean towards “fantasy films with the most compelling storylines” or “A24 horror movies that keep me on the edge of my seat.” Nevertheless, when it comes to Nick and Liz, I make an exception and prioritize watching their romantic journey unfold above all else.

Instead of “But, it’s not even the romance of these two that captures me – it’s that they are literally such good parents. “, you could say:

In some romantic comedies, I’m surprised by the portrayal of the worst parents. Yet, it fills me with approval whenever the decent ones make an appearance.

I Also Have To Bring Up That Chessy And Martin Are The Best Caretakers

I’ve recently been reminded of these two characters. As a child, their love story didn’t captivate me as much, but now as an adult, I find myself drawn to it.

I’m captivated by how Chessy and Martin collaborate despite working for different caregivers, Nick and Liz, for the girls. They become active participants in their plan to reunite their employers once they uncover their separation plots.

Like, come on – now that is service, and also signs of the best caretakers ever. 

It’s even more heartwarming that as these two individuals aid the children, they unexpectedly develop feelings for each other. Such a delightful cinematic trope! By the movie’s conclusion, I found myself feeling genuinely elated.

The captivating relationship between Nick and Liz, embodying the classic “right person, wrong time” theme, stands out as one of Disney’s most enchanting love stories. The fact that they reunite and get married is undeniably one of the most romantic moments in Disney history.

As a gamer, I can’t help but be drawn to this movie’s storyline. There’s an indescribable sense of joy it brings me, and on those gloomy days, it manages to put a smile on my face. It follows the journey of two girls hatching a plan to reunite their parents. Who wouldn’t root for that kind of heartwarming scheme?

If Lindsay Lohan reconciles with Disney, there’s a chance we might witness a “Parent Trap” remake with her portraying the mother’s role. This notion is intriguing, but what I can confirm is that I found myself thoroughly entertained by this classic movie as an adult. I strongly recommend revisiting it if it’s been a while. Prepare some popcorn and indulge in a few hours of nostalgia – trust me, it will be worth your time.
