As a long-time fan of these thrilling adventure movies that have brought endless hours of excitement and laughter into my life, I can hardly contain my anticipation for the fourth installment of the Jumanji series! Ever since the first adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved book graced our screens, I’ve been hooked on this magical world.
It appears that for those keeping tabs on upcoming films in 2025, it’s clear that anticipation starts early. This seems to hold true with Sony Pictures, who recently unveiled plans for the fourth movie in a widely popular blockbuster series.
I’m not referring to the upcoming “Spider-Man 4” in 2026, but instead the third installment of the “Jumanji” series that has been given a release date. The studio officially announced that “Jumanji 3” will hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
To put it simply, if you’re a fan of the original 1981 book adaptation by Chris Van Allsburg, you might know that this is actually the fourth installment. This new story seems to follow the group of characters portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan as they continue their video game adventures filled with thrill and excitement.
Indeed, it’s quite possible that our initial notion about the ending of “Jumanji: The Next Level” might be incorrect, given its unpredictable finale hints at potential real-world repercussions. In fact, the 2019 sequel directed by Jake Kasdan subtly links past and future events from the original “Jumanji”, as evidenced in a post-credits scene. This connection is established through Aunt Nora (played by Bebe Newirth), a character from the first movie, who appears to have a sense of déjà vu and is now shown as the owner of a bar.
Due to a chaotic invasion of animals unsuited for our environment, it’s likely that the character portrayed by the Frasier alum was sensing the ominous drums heralding the arrival of the game. This incident might justify why we continue to call this upcoming project Jumanji 4, and it could hint at Newirth’s possible return; he might play a haphazard adult who becomes ensnared in the video game version of the infamous board game of peril.
It appears that for Jumanji’s next installment to thrive in the movie market, it will require substantial word-of-mouth popularity. This is due to the fact that just a week after its release on December 18th, 2026, Denis Villeneuve’s unnamed blockbuster movie may be hitting theaters, which some speculate could potentially be Dune: Messiah.
If the situation arises that Jumanji 4’s release date falls within the next two Avatar sequels, it would be immaterial since it’s slated to contend with an unspecified future Star Wars film scheduled for the same day as a possible third installment of Paul Atreides.
On December 11, 2026, “Jumanji 4” will hit cinemas, but for those eager to rejoin Dr. Smolder Bravestone and his companions, you can stream both “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Jumanji: The Next Level” online. No need for a dice roll of five or eight, but a Hulu subscription will be essential if you wish to deepen your understanding of this exciting franchise.
