‘I Do Get A Little Territorial’: Jeff Probst Gets Real About Survivor Players Getting Poached For Other Shows Like The Traitors

In the coming year, viewers of the show “The Traitors” can anticipate a threesome of former “Survivor” contestants appearing in Season 4. Given the significant impact that CBS’s survival series has had on Alan Cumming’s murder mystery game, this isn’t entirely unexpected. While fans are undoubtedly thrilled about Rob Cesternino, Natalie Anderson, and Yam Yam Arocho, it remains to be seen if “Survivor” host Jeff Probst shares the same enthusiasm, as he admitted to feeling a bit protective, or territorial, over his cast members.

The long-running reality competition show, “Survivor,” that recently completed its 48th season in May (airing on TV schedules for 2025), has been synonymous with reality competition shows since the year 2000. A significant factor behind its success is its exceptional casting choices. This is why Jeff Probst, the show’s host, occasionally feels a tinge of jealousy when he spots his former players on other shows, as he himself admitted.

When we discover an exceptional individual who’s thriving on Survivor, other shows start to take notice and offer them roles. However, I can’t help but feel protective, thinking ‘Of course you would! That’s great casting for you.’ So yes, I do get a bit territorial about it. To put it simply, I don’t mind admitting that I feel possessive about finding such outstanding talent first.

I certainly agree with his viewpoint. Shows such as Survivor discover incredible individuals like Boston Rob and Cirie Fields, who gain fame on CBS (streamable with a Paramount+ subscription), but then other series like Big Brother, The Traitors, and The Amazing Race take advantage of these personalities’ established reality TV personas.

Jeff Probst isn’t just resentful that talent from Survivor is being taken and desires to control everyone’s fate, but he emphasized the impact on the show, stating:

*Jeff Probst doesn’t just feel bitter about talent from Survivor being poached and wants to be in charge of everyone’s destiny; rather, he underscored the effect on the show by saying:*

If viewed from our perspective, it seems like we may be welcoming back a familiar face this season, and we feel a bit of disappointment that you’ll be busy with other shows. However, I am making an effort to change that sentiment because the talent here is captivating, as expected. They truly are fascinating and entertaining individuals. Of course, it’s not my position to ask you not to take on other projects.

It could be said convincingly that if Parvati Shallow appeared on shows like The Traitors or Deal or No Deal Island, it might diminish the uniqueness if she were to return for another season of Survivor in the future.

Jeff Probst doesn’t seem to consider that many viewers might not have watched Survivor before The Traitors, but may now watch later seasons or even rewatch previous ones because they admired the players from other shows. This could potentially benefit both parties, and it appears Jeff Probst is exploring ways to capitalize on this opportunity.

Be sure to watch out for when Survivor Season 49 starts airing on CBS this autumn, and mark your calendars as The Traitors Season 4 is set to come back on Peacock in the year 2026.
