Initially, hearing that there’s a sequel to “Den of Thieves 3” on the horizon filled me with excitement, wondering if we’d have to endure another five years before seeing more adventures of Gerard Butler’s character Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien and O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s Donnie Wilson. However, after conversing with Christian Gudegast, the creator of “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera,” I find it unlikely that we’ll face another seven-year delay.
I recently chatted with Gudegast about ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’, now streaming via PVOD and arriving on physical media from Lionsgate on March 4. We talked about its standout moments, the chemistry between Butler and Jackson, and the series’ future direction. When I inquired about when we might see progress on the much-awaited third installment, this was his response:
Or, more concisely:
I spoke with Gudegast about ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’, now available on PVOD and hitting stores March 4. We covered its top scenes, Butler & Jackson’s dynamic, and the series’ future. He shared his thoughts on when we can expect the next film:
From the present moment until next year, we’ll complete the entire script. After that, I, as well as Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr., will each be occupied with other projects. In terms of filming, we’re looking at 2026.
Gudegast hasn’t set a definitive release schedule for the sequel yet, but that’s fantastic news for fans of the Den of Thieves series who can’t get enough! Though no specific date has been mentioned, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Den of Thieves 3 in January 2027 – a month that coincidentally marks the initial release of the first two films on the big screen.
According to all discussions about Den of Thieves 3, it seems that the upcoming heist film will offer more than just an enjoyable action-thriller experience. In a recent conversation with Gudegast, the director not only revealed he’s already prepared for a third installment, but he also has ideas for Den of Thieves 4 and potentially even further sequels.
We possess both versions, three and four, all set for release. Each one will offer a unique experience, similar to a type of movie I’ve long dreamed of creating. In this industry, establishing a franchise from original content is like seeking the legendary Holy Grail. And that’s exactly what we’ve accomplished. Consequently, I’m excited to see where this journey takes us.
Listening to the director’s thoughts about an original franchise as a “holy grail” was quite encouraging. Nowadays, there are numerous franchises in existence, but it’s genuinely invigorating to come across one that isn’t connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the emerging DC Universe, or upcoming series like “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” And no, it’s not merely due to my personal desire to watch Gerard Butler battle cigars with a flair.
As a keen enthusiast, I’m eagerly looking forward to the release of “Den of Thieves 3,” but unfortunately, its arrival date remains uncertain for now. However, you can satisfy your appetite for high-octane action by catching up with “Pantera” right away on PVOD services, or from March 4, 2025, on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD.
