If you haven’t watched the second season of Severance on Apple TV+ yet, be aware that the following contains spoilers. So, proceed with caution if you don’t want to ruin the surprise!
Despite the extensive time audiences have invested exploring the realm of Severance, spanning 14 TV episodes and numerous hours of conjecture, very little attention has been given to revealing Lumon’s headquarters’ location. In contrast to other well-known U.S. landmarks, this information has been scarce. If only the animated building belonging to Keanu Reeves had provided a clearer indication! We know it was constructed within the city of Kier, in a state that has been mentioned solely as “PE” in written form.
Interestingly enough, only one city in Kier’s close proximity is familiar to viewers: Ganz, PE. This is where the college once attended by Mark S. and Gemma is situated, and it’s speculated that this could also be the location of Devon and Ricken’s residence. Furthermore, the most significant disclosure so far has been the eccentric ORTBO episode, which potentially identifies the Dieter Eagan National Forest, although its legitimacy remains uncertain.
As a movie enthusiast, with limited scholarly resources at hand and no definitive insights expected from upcoming television schedules in 2025, I’ll bravely venture some educated guesses regarding the possible meaning of PE. Let’s dive in!
Theory: PE Stands For “Prime Eagan” Or Something Similar
It’s unlikely that someone well-versed in the tales of Severance would be surprised by Kier Eagan desiring more than just establishing an innovative and transformative business. To me, he appears to be a person who wouldn’t stop at that; he might also aspire to own the land where his home and company stand permanently. Given Lumon’s worldwide influence similar to companies like Amazon or Google, it’s conceivable that the Eagan family could have the means to make land claims.
Although I’m not an expert on the specific steps involved in legally establishing a new state within a country, it’s clear that we don’t have to delve into those complexities to recognize the essence of this family lineage: it flourishes on power and self-importance. And when it comes to illustrating this trait, there can be no more telling example than giving a state its own name.
Currently, I wouldn’t be taken aback to discover that Kier’s true name might be Patrick, or another name fitting this assumption, but I doubt it. Additionally, I don’t foresee him naming it after any of his brothers or sisters, so if we uncover more appendices in the future, they probably won’t revolve around characters with P-names.
Why I’m Leaning Specifically Into “Prime Eagan”
In the story “Woe’s Hollow”, there is a dream that Irving had which helped him figure out who Helena was. This part of the story not only creates an eerie impression of Woe as a sinister character representing Helena, but it also features intriguing visuals on Irving’s computer screen.
Initially, MDR numbers show unusual behavior with a specific sequence of letters (E, A, G, N) appearing, which can easily be rearranged to spell “E-A-G-A-N.” However, the displayed numbers – 1, 3, 5, 7 – might also carry significance since they are all prime numbers.
Alright, there seems to be a slight misunderstanding since the number one isn’t considered a prime number in mathematics. However, just like how letters like E, A, G, and N can combine to form “Eagan,” numbers like 1 can be combined with others to create new prime numbers such as 11, 13, 17, 31, 51, and so forth. It’s not entirely accurate, but much like Lumon, it’s not perfect either.
Prime May Have Other Meanings, Too
In the realm of ‘Severance’, a simple idea like “natural childbirth resulting in robust traditional families” raises eyebrows when it comes to the Eagan family. Viewers have numerous theories about the true nature of their lineage and family tree, with whispers of potential incestuous relationships surfacing in the past.
Could it be possible that Prime Eagan not just symbolizes the city as the primary location for the family business, but also signifies each of the family members who hold the position of CEO? What if every one of them, including those who appeared to have no direct bloodline, were actually genetically related to Kier Eagan through early experiments in cloning and gene-splicing technology?
In other words, if “Dieter Eagan” is a rearranged phrase for “AI-generated” and “ORTBO” can be rearranged to form “ROBOT,” it implies that Lumon’s founding family could be the advanced, technology-driven offspring of Kier’s endeavor to preserve his genetic material for over 150 years. It seems plausible that Miss Huang and the character portrayed as both Ms. Casey and Gemma are also evolving into biological disciples in this manner.
Various theories suggest that the mysterious, gray-haired character portrayed at the beginning could be Kier Eagan himself, but delving into that fascinating possibility would lead us to another equally captivating discussion.
Or Maybe I’m Entirely Wrong
As I delve deeper into this concept, it appears equally plausible yet hard to swallow. This contradiction is one of the reasons Severance is so intriguing to watch, as it frequently provokes unusual theories. However, let’s consider a possibility where PE doesn’t signify “Prime Eagan” at all.
It’s plausible that the term “Praise Eagan” could be referring to a state name, while “Praise Kier” might be a slogan used internally within Lumon. However, this seems less imaginative compared to my initial theory, so let’s assume we’ve already dismissed it as a possibility.
Additionally, let’s consider swapping out our traditional Straightforward Theory Hat for a more versatile one from a general store, and let’s brainstorm some alternative interpretations for these symbols within this cosmic landscape.
- Party of Egg
- Place-for Eagans
- Pillaged Elements
- Perpetual Edification
- Perfection Excellence
- Paternal Ewwness
- Pleasant Escape
- Petey’s Endgame
Reflect on the philosophical implications if June Kilmer were singing a song titled “Against Lumon” in a state that coincidentally shared her father’s name. On the other hand, let’s discuss why Lumon’s act of gifting his paintings to Milchick was significant, as it marked the first instance of positive feedback during his performance appraisal.
On Fridays, Apple TV+ unveils fresh installments of “Severance,” and we’re quickly approaching the end of Season 2 with just a few episodes left. Oh, how wonderful it would be if there was a brain chip that allowed me to rewatch the series from the start without recalling past events.
