Season 3 of “The Traitors” has arrived, and my anticipation for the social deception reality show to add zest to the 2025 TV lineup was already high; however, Alan Cumming‘s recent statement provides another compelling reason to look forward to rejoining the series. In a revealing roundtable discussion, he shared the amusingly devious method used to select this season’s traitors.
Preparing to watch the debut of “The Traitors,” I’m captivated by Alan Cumming’s insights on the moment when the cast was blindfolded to determine this season’s traitors. In a recent disclosure, he shared details about the selection process.
In this show segment, I find myself truly petrified. The fear of making a mistake is palpable, but the thrill is undeniable too… They keep those blindfolds on for quite a while, around 40 minutes perhaps. As I circle and circle, everything is captured on camera first. I’ve made sure to touch each one, so there’s no doubt about who got touched in case that matters later. Then, I begin to pause…
During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Cumming mentioned that the cast often waits for nearly an hour while he circles the table multiple times, trying to subtly hint at the traitors by his movements. Additionally, he admitted that he also considers the sound of fabric rustling as he walks around the group in search of those he will tap on the shoulder.
We’re deliberately doing it! You might notice some new actions from me, such as subtly rustling the fabric of my sleeve, halting briefly, and making soft noises on the floor. When you can’t see, your hearing becomes incredibly sharp, so everyone is listening very carefully. That means I need to be more mischievous and cunning than ever before. It’s always fun when they exclaim, “I heard him stop! I heard him stop!
Alan Cumming is basking in the afterglow of his series winning not one, but two Emmys for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host, as well as a double season renewal. What I adore about Cumming’s style is how leisurely he takes to identify the traitor, creating an undeniable sense of tension. Moreover, it seems that Cumming has become adept at noticing the contestants’ focus on sounds and other details during the selection process, using this insight to heighten the drama even further.
In a hint towards the upcoming season, he disclosed that one aspect he enjoyed most was a competitor behaving rather oddly, similar to an overly curious owl, constantly observing others due to their intense thirst for information. I’m eager to find out who this character is!
In the third installment of “The Traitors,” we’ve gathered an array of popular personalities that have us buzzing with anticipation, including Bob the Drag Queen, renowned from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”; Danielle Reyes, famously known for her stint on “Big Brother”; Dylan, brother of Zac Efron, recognized from “Down To Earth”; and retired WWE wrestler Nikki Garcia. The initial three episodes of this thrilling series are now accessible via Peacock subscription, with fresh installments airing every Thursday.
