I Hope Brie Larson Likes Skyrim More Than Me

In my leisure time on social media platforms, I happened upon Brie Larson‘s Instagram story – the star of Captain Marvel. It looks like she’s still enjoying Switch games, which is fantastic, and it seems she’s preparing to immerse herself completely in Bethesda’s Skyrim next.

To be honest, it’s fantastic for Brie Larson. I genuinely wish she enjoys the open-world RPG, as personally, it didn’t resonate much with me.

Before people rush to express their fondness for Bethesda’s RPG, it’s simple to comprehend why Skyrim is appealing. It’s refreshing when an RPG doesn’t overly guide the player, allowing them freedom in their choices. Depending on your preferred playstyle, you can either follow the storyline or deviate from it and transform into a vampire.

Yes, you can become a vampire.

Although the liberty is appealing, it’s overwhelming for me. Having numerous quests available with minimal time constraints can be daunting, given the sheer number of them. Moreover, fearing missing out on various aspects of the game (FOMO) seems more likely than other dedicated players who play this game frequently.

You might be wondering: “Why not stick to the main story in Skyrim if its vast open world seems daunting?” But here’s the thing, dear reader, it’s not that I find the main story appealing; rather, I dislike the overall gameplay experience.

Although the game offers plenty of freedom for players in this open-world RPG, I personally find the overall gameplay experience lacking. The combat feels laborious, and there’s little satisfaction in defeating enemies. Being someone who enjoys a good fight in video games, it was disheartening not to find enjoyment in slashing both humans and beasts.

Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim offers the flexibility to switch between first and third-person camera angles, which is a welcomed feature. However, switching perspectives doesn’t seem to enhance the experience as the combat remains lackluster. Given Brie Larson‘s involvement, it’s likely she’s playing this game for the adventure rather than the enjoyable fighting aspect it seems to lack in this game.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that while delving into Bethesda’s 2011 masterpiece, I can’t help but yearn for a more visually stunning experience. The character models and environments, though products of their time, seem somewhat outdated to my modern eyes. However, it’s important to note that recent rereleases have added a splash of color to the game, and modding communities are always brimming with ways to enhance the visual appeal. Yet, for me, the charm just doesn’t quite match up.

I admire how Skyrim and Bethesda approach game development. While their games may not always shine in polish, their willingness to introduce bugs for the sake of providing players with freedom is commendable. At times, we crave immersion in a vast fantasy realm, even if the combat system leaves something to be desired.

Hope you have a good time, Brie Larson! More than me, anyway.
