As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of Elsbeth, I can wholeheartedly say that Jane Krakowski’s performance as the cunning and charismatic real estate agent Joann Lenox left an indelible mark on me. Her ability to balance drama with humor was nothing short of mesmerizing, and her portrayal of Joann was a breath of fresh air in the otherwise dark and twisted narrative of Elsbeth’s investigations.
To put it simply, although I’ve got a wishlist for potential guest stars on Elsbeth, I can’t help but hope that some of the actors from Season 1 might reprise their roles too. But after marathoning all of Season 1 ahead of its premiere in the 2024 TV lineup, there’s one actress whose name has become my top priority: Jane Krakowski.
In episode 2 of the initial season of “Elsbeth,” the actress from “30 Rock” was seen as real estate agent Joann Lenox. Although she turned out to be rather greedy and malicious, her performance was delightfully charming (undoubtedly due to Krakowski’s acting skills). I can’t get enough of her portrayal and eagerly anticipate seeing her return. Not only would this be a treat for me as a viewer, but it also offers an opportunity to introduce more intriguing murders and captivating characters. Thus, I implore the creators of this popular CBS series to swiftly devise a plan to bring back the talented actress from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”!
I Loved Seeing Jane Krakowski’s Dramatic (But Still Fun) Side
In the episode titled “A Classic New York Character,” notorious co-op board president Gloria Blecher (played by Linda Lavin) was tragically murdered by Joann. To accomplish this, Joann had weakened the bolts on Gloria’s balcony and pushed her over the edge to her death. This case proved to be quite unusual, and as events unfolded, Carrie Preston’s character (also named Carrie) found herself both investigating who killed Gloria and attempting to purchase an apartment for herself, all while developing a relationship with Lenox.
Throughout the entire episode, the actress displayed her exceptional acting skills as a disgruntled realtor, adding depth to her character. Moreover, it was amusing to observe her acting as Preston’s foil, Elsbeth. This role deviates from her portrayal in Schmigadoon!, and I eagerly anticipate seeing her delve deeper into that dynamic once more.
As a fan, I found it refreshing to witness Jane Krakowski showcase a more serious side in the series ‘Elsbeth‘. She managed to infuse this role with such depth that it was captivating to watch. Moreover, she didn’t shy away from adding some humor, ensuring a perfectly balanced and enjoyable character. I certainly hope we get to see her reprise this intriguing portrayal in the future.
Think About All The Shenanigans That Could Ensue If Jane Krakowski’s Real Estate Agent Returned
While my reasoning for Krakowski coming back has a lot to do with her skills as an actress, it also has to do with the character she played. Joann Lenox was a high-profile real estate agent who is very connected.
It’s possible that she might find a way to leave prison and then take on a role at a newly constructed building where a homicide occurred. Given her past conviction, it would likely be challenging for her to regain her old clients as a lawyer. Therefore, it seems plausible that she would eventually acquire some unstable or suspicious new clientele.
I love the idea of an Only Murders in the Building type mystery where most (if not all) of the suspects are the characters who live in a building. Plus, it naturally opens a door for lots and lots of other guest stars (and maybe even some of the 30 Rock cast? I’m just throwing that idea out there…).
Not only do I look forward to Elsbeth and Kaya tackling another whodunnit, but it would be intriguing to witness their interaction once more. Since the title character was relatively fresh when Joann entered the picture, seeing them work together now that the lawyer-turned-unofficial detective is a permanent fixture of the NYPD could make for an engaging story.
All in all, I strongly hope that Krakowski and other Season 1 guest stars will return for more episodes of Elsbeth. Their stories were captivating and their performances were outstanding. Yet, the anticipation builds as we look forward to seeing what lies ahead each Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
In the second season of “Elsbeth,” although Nathan Lane didn’t portray his “Good Wife” character, his performance as the suspected killer and opera enthusiast, Phillip Cross, was simply remarkable. To add to the excitement, we learn that Carrie Preston’s spouse, Michael Emerson, is set to make an appearance in the upcoming season. Given these stellar guest stars, I can’t help but feel that the quality of appearances this sophomore run will be on par with its impressive debut.
Instead, I plan on staying hopeful about Jane Krakowski’s return and another mystery in a building by revisiting Season 1, Episode 2 of Elsbeth, using my Paramount+ membership to stream it.
