I Just Watched You’re Cordially Invited, Then Found Out the A+ Jonas Brother Cameo Was Apparently Will Ferrell’s Idea

A few hints about the plot of “You’re Cordially Invited” might be present in this story, but since it has already been scheduled for release in 2025, you can catch up on it if you haven’t seen it yet.

Before subscribing to You’re Cordially Invited on Amazon Prime Video, I wasn’t very familiar with the film beyond knowing that Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell were collaborating for a mix of verbal and physical humor, and that Ferrell would grapple with an alligator (a detail more wild than anticipated). But after unexpectedly enjoying this romantic comedy, I discovered more about Nick Jonas’ appearance in the film, and I’m really enjoying learning how it came to be.

Actually, Director Nicholas Stoller disclosed that the idea to include one of the Jonas Brothers wasn’t his own, aiming to boost the film with celebrity appeal. He confessed to Collider that he initially envisioned a charismatic clergyman for the wedding scenes on the dock, but had no particular cameo in mind. Instead, he casually thought any attractive star from Hollywood would be cast for the role.

So, who came up with the idea? Apparently it was Will Ferrell himself.

Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell enjoy a friendship with Nick Jonas. When the idea of having him involved was suggested, it sounded like an amazing opportunity. A call was made, and to everyone’s delight, Nick agreed and set aside time from his busy schedule for a two-day visit. He proved to be both hilarious and enthusiastic throughout the entire experience.

Casting lesser-known comedic actors can sometimes be a risky move, as seen in the case of the You’re Cordially Invited scene. This scene, featuring a boat causing chaos at a wedding by splashing water on guests and knocking down the dock, is one of the most significant in the movie. It seems that Jonas was eager to join in the fun and create mischief alongside the rest of the cast.

At a particular instance, I approached him and felt a bit jittery. I asked him playfully, “Can we pretend to splash water on you as if you’ve fallen off a dock?” To my delight, he agreed without any hesitation. He was indeed game for anything. He was simply hilarious.

In due course, I moved towards him and felt a touch of apprehension. I quipped, “Fancy us pretending to splash water on you as if you’ve taken a dip off the dock?” To my relief, he responded positively. He was absolutely up for it. He was downright amusing.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: Nick Jonas isn’t new to the world of comedy on set! Before his electrifying role in the blockbuster hit “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle“, he honed his comic skills in his Disney Channel original series. So, when he unexpectedly showed up in the much-anticipated “Willerspoon” movie, it wasn’t as surprising as it might seem. It was like fate had a hand in it!

In the movie, he made an appearance during a double wedding ceremony scene officiating Margot (Witherspoon)’s sister Neve’s (Meredith Hanger) wedding. Upon meeting him, Margot and some of her relatives found him to be quite attractive as an alternative to their local pastor. When it was his turn to conduct the ceremony, he unexpectedly broke into a performance of Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open,” resulting in one of the film’s most humorous scenes.

In the movie, things started to unravel dramatically right before everything else took a drastic turn for the worse. (Of course, this was before the alligator incident as well.)
