I Loved Only Murders In The Building’s Season 4 Premiere, But I've Got A Beef With Hulu

As a seasoned gamer and a devoted streaming service enthusiast with over a decade of binge-watching under my belt, I must say that Hulu has been consistently delivering high-quality content, and Only Murders in the Building is no exception. However, I find myself somewhat disappointed by their release strategy for Season 4.

Spoilers ahead for Only Murders In The Building’s Season 4 premiere.

Since its debut, the comedy “Only Murders in the Building” has consistently ranked as one of Hulu’s finest series. Although Season 3 garnered numerous Emmy nominations, viewers such as myself have been thrilled to witness the arrival of Season 4 on the streaming platform. I found the premiere of “Only Murders'” Season 4 to be delightful, but I find myself in a bit of a disagreement with Hulu.

One way to rephrase the text in natural and easy-to-read language is: “Subscribing to Hulu gives you access to ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ plus other critically-acclaimed series like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ While some viewers are still trying to figure out when Season 4 of ‘Only Murders’ will air, I was fortunate enough to watch it as soon as it premiered. It was a delightful return to the comedy series, but there’s a catch: Hulu has only released one episode this year.”

Streaming platforms like Netflix have made it common practice to allow binge-watching, but I’ve personally preferred Hulu’s approach: they release up to three episodes initially, giving viewers a chance to binge and then wait for new episodes weekly. This way, you get the best of both worlds – a taste of binge-watching followed by waiting for each new episode. Sadly, this wasn’t the strategy adopted for Season 4 of Only Murders.

As a devoted fan, I was left yearning for more after just getting a taste of Season 4 with a solitary episode. To put it into perspective, the premiere ran approximately 37 minutes, making it feel like a fleeting moment. Ideally, I would have loved to see at least one more episode then, but two would have been even better. However, there’s some good news: since we only got a glimpse of the new season this time around, it seems that it will extend for a longer duration now.

Besides my habit of binge-watching TV series, I was eagerly anticipating another installment (or more) of Season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building.” The intriguing way the premiere unfolded left me wanting more. In the Season 3 finale, we saw Jane Lynch’s character Sazz Pataki die, but our trio of heroes were completely unaware of this event. Through the first episode, there are hints that something is amiss, but it isn’t until the very end that they finally realize something is wrong.

Gradually, the podcast hosts come to understand that an incident occurred in Charles’ apartment, and it was someone who knows them intimately who orchestrated it. They discover blood in the kitchen, a bullet-ridden window, and the charred remains of Sazz in the incinerator. As the suspense steadily escalated throughout the episode, the nail-biting climax left me yearning for more. Given that the main characters spent most of the episode without a murder to solve, it’s safe to say there will be intriguing developments in the next installment.

It’s clear that Hulu’s release strategy doesn’t deter me from watching Only Murders, as I plan to catch it weekly to see the unfolding events in Season 4, especially with stars like Eugene Levy and Molly Shannon joining the cast. However, it would be great if I could watch at least Episode 2 right away.

On Tuesdays, you can catch “Only Murders in the Building” streaming on Hulu. So, don’t forget to consult your television schedule for your upcoming binge-watching sessions.
