I Rewatched Freaky Friday For The First Time As An Adult, And I Need To Talk About The Real MVP Of This Movie

Freaky Friday played a significant role in my childhood memories. Before Disney+ was even around, I’d regularly watch the movie on television. It had been quite some time since I last saw the 2003 version. With the new Freakier Friday scheduled for release in 2025, I thought it was high time to rewatch the original starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as an adult. I feel compelled to discuss a hidden gem and a surprising standout character from that film.

It’s Mark Harmon’s Character!

In my childhood, I used to watch the movie “Freaky Friday” frequently, and it was released when I was just 4 years old. I’ve always been a fan of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ antics as Anna and Tess. As a kid, I aspired to be as cool as Anna, and naturally, I had a crush on Chad Michael Murray’s character Jake. The story of Anna and Tess switching places and experiencing each other’s lives firsthand was not only entertaining but also incredibly empowering and heartwarming.

Upon revisiting it for the first time as an adult before the release of Freakier Friday, I’ve come to understand that I hadn’t fully appreciated Mark Harmon’s character Ryan earlier. In truth, Tess’s husband-to-be-turned-husband, Ryan, is a wonderful blend of sweetness, care, and thoughtfulness. This film would not be the same without him, making him its most valuable player (MVP).

Ryan Got His Partner A Great Career Opportunity

Right from the start, it’s evident that Ryan makes an excellent match for Tess. He demonstrates genuine concern for her family, and is understanding towards their situation. However, his dedication to this family truly shines when he arranges for Jamie Lee Curtis’ character to appear on a talk show to promote her book – showing exceptional effort beyond the call of duty.

During that moment, things weren’t quite smooth since Anna was actually Tess. Yet, the important thing to remember is that actions speak louder than words. And let me tell you, what Ryan did was incredibly kind, considerate, and truly made a difference.

With Disney+, immerse yourself in a world filled with blockbuster hits from Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars! Plus, enjoy timeless classics such as “Freaky Friday.” Subscription plans are affordable, starting at just $9.99 per month. Don’t miss out on this fantastic offer!

Ryan Let Anna Go To The Concert And Then Asked Tess To Go Watch Her

Ryan, my man, appreciates and values his future stepdaughter’s interests wholeheartedly, and he’s always there to boost her confidence. During the rehearsal dinner, when Anna’s friends called her for their performance, he cheered her on to go. This act of kindness made the wedding between him and Tess feel even more heartwarming, and hearing him tell this to his partner (who is actually his stepdaughter) just made me eager to hear those wedding bells chime louder than ever.

I developed strong feelings for you, recognizing your past and family background, which I deeply respect. You consistently prioritize the children, as it rightfully should be, and that’s what I aspire to as well. I never forced my affection on Anna, wanting her to like me in her own time and manner.

This version maintains the original message while using a more natural and easy-to-read language.

It’s quite obvious that his way of speaking shows genuine concern, and it became even more apparent when he suggested Tess to witness Anna’s performance. This action, unknowingly, facilitated their exchange back. He’s simply a thoughtful and caring individual.

Ryan Stuck Through ALL That Switch Nonsense, And He Did So With Grace And Love

Ultimately, the primary factor that makes Mark Harmon’s character the standout in this film is his skillful portrayal of body-swapping comedy. You see, while the predicament faced by Tess and Anna is undeniably amusing, if one were to find oneself in their shoes, it would be disconcerting and challenging to manage. In fact, I’d probably react with shock myself! However, Harmon manages to make this bizarre scenario seem natural and believable on screen, making him the Most Valuable Player of the movie.

Despite navigating the tumultuous waves skillfully, Ryan’s affection for Tess remained steadfast and unwavering. He showed remarkable poise, love, and proved himself as a valuable addition to the family. To put it simply, as Anna’s friend would say, “Ryan, you rock!

I’m eagerly anticipating Mark Harmon reprising his role as Ryan in Freakier Friday, alongside Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess once more. I’m curious to learn about their married life and I truly hope there will be another chaotic family body-swap scenario, where he gracefully handles it with his usual poise and supportive demeanor. He’s certainly a Most Valuable Player!
