I Rewatched Inception For The 15th Anniversary, And It Gave Me Some #Feelings About Where Christopher Nolan Is Going Next

Instead of the 2026 movie lineup being jam-packed with upcoming films, it’s the lack of original science fiction that stands out to me – similar to the intriguing and thought-provoking film, Inception.

It’s unlikely that, after fifteen years, there are still people unaware of what Inception is. But if by some chance you happen to be one of those people, here’s a brief explanation: Inception, widely regarded as one of Christopher Nolan‘s masterpieces, tells the story of a skilled thief who can infiltrate and extract information from people’s subconscious minds.

It’s trippy, weird, and 100% one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade – if not of all time.

While lounging on my sofa recently, I found myself revisiting this classic sci-fi piece. It sparked a question in me: Where are all the fresh, original sci-fi productions like this? And couldn’t we have Christopher Nolan at the helm for one of them?

It’s So Rare We Get Sci-Fi Like This In Theaters Nowadays

One intriguing aspect of the film “Inception” is that it has left many viewers puzzled for years. The ending remains a topic of ongoing debate, transcending personal opinions and theories about its actual events. Regardless, it consistently ranks among Leonardo DiCaprio’s most remarkable performances.

But it makes me wonder if we’re running out of fresh, unique sci-fi concepts anymore. There are certainly new sci-fi movies released – take Predator: Badlands for example – but I often find that they’re either sequels or remakes, which has been a concern of mine about the movie industry for some time.

Additionally, new films are released, but often these are adaptations based on previously published books or established intellectual properties, such as the forthcoming “Project Hail Mary.

Contrary to popular belief, Inception wasn’t a remake, reboot, or adaptation; it was an entirely original concept conceived by Nolan. Such unique films seem scarcely produced in current cinema landscape.

I Hope That After The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan Dives Back Into Sci-Fi Again

I’m equally thrilled about The Odyssey, but I can’t help but wish Nolan would consider returning to sci-fi. There’s a unique flair he brings to this genre that sets him apart from others, particularly in this era where original ideas seem scarce in filmmaking.

I must admit, Inception is my favorite when it comes to creating a sense of trippy, mind-bending experiences. Christopher Nolan excelled in this area beyond measure. However, he didn’t stop there. He also delved into sci-fi with Interstellar, which happens to be my preferred work by him. Tenet, unfortunately underappreciated, is another of his sci-fi creations. While The Prestige could be classified as a sci-fi film, Tenet and Interstellar are more closely associated with the genre.

It seems as though Christopher Nolan thinks differently when creating his science fiction movies compared to other directors, and this unique perspective results in a vision that’s truly extraordinary. His previous works have consistently demonstrated an exceptional narrative.

I really hope Nolan explores these tales further. While I enjoy biographies and adaptations of well-known works equally with most people, I’m yearning for some fresh science fiction concepts from him.

I’ll rewatch Inception again, likely for the umpteenth time. Time to rewatch and feel confused.
