Normally, when folks are thrilled about a fresh attraction at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, it’s usually a grand E-ticket adventure, such as the colossal roller coaster Tron: Lightcycle Run or the mind-blowing dark ride Rise of the Resistance. However, the most captivating, exhilarating, and perhaps petrifying new attraction from Disney in 2025 isn’t anything on such a large scale; instead, it’s a straightforward animatronic figure of Walt Disney himself.
As a die-hard Disney fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the debut of “Walt Disney: A Magical Journey” at Disneyland next week, marking the 70th anniversary of the park’s opening day. The announcement has stirred quite a debate, with some questioning the decision to honor Walt Disney in a park that carries his name. Despite the controversy, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement about this new addition. And honestly, the attraction poster looks breathtakingly beautiful – I can’t wait to add it to my collection!

The video posted to Instagram shows Disney artist Jeremy Fulton go through his process for designing the attraction poster for Walt Disney: A Magical Life. Disneyland attraction posters, even for new rides and shows, still use classic design that makes them look like they could have been created decades ago; it gives them a timeless quality that makes them almost always look special.
I’m particularly fond of the Easter eggs displayed in the poster. The hidden Mickey and the classic Opera House header are neat, but what truly captivates me is the fact that the pointing fingers on the hands were designed based on Walt Disney’s own hands – a level of detail that most people wouldn’t even spot.
Over the years, I’ve found myself holding back from covering my entire office in attractive posters due to my strong affinity for them and the fact that they tend to drain my wallet. However, because I often can’t choose a favorite among so many options, I haven’t actually made a purchase. But this one might just break the cycle.
This project, titled “Walt Disney: A Magical Life,” might turn into something extraordinary and technologically advanced. If we can successfully create life-like audio animatronics without veering into the unsettling uncanny valley, and if the dialogue is carefully selected to avoid being overly sentimental or cheesy, then Walt Disney could still have as profound an impact today as his Abraham Lincoln audio animatronic did decades ago.
Currently, Disneyland is joyously commemorating its 70th anniversary, a spectacle that’s already captivating in its own right, without even imagining Walt Disney’s presence. I can hardly wait to speculate about what he would look like and what words of wisdom he might share. One thing we’re certain of is that the poster design is fantastic!
