As a lifelong boxing enthusiast and someone who has followed both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul’s careers, I must say that the upcoming fight has me more intrigued than ever. Having had the opportunity to observe their training sessions, I can confidently say that Tyson’s skills are still formidable, while Paul’s lack of technical finesse is concerning.
Fans of sports have long been anticipating the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, with some questioning if it would ever take place. But come this Friday evening, they’ll finally duke it out, and the event can be streamed using a Netflix subscription. Prior to the main event, both fighters showcased their skills at open workouts. Watching them train, there were several aspects that caught my attention.
Regrettably, I couldn’t attend the live event in Irving, Texas to witness the two fighters showcase their talents personally. However, I’m thankful that MMA Junkie shared comprehensive video footage of both combatants instead. There were aspects I appreciated and some that gave me pause. Here are my observations.
Mike Tyson Can Box Circles Around Jake Paul
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m not a professional boxing analyst by any means, but even I could see who the more technically adept fighter was from the get-go. Mike Tyson might be an elder statesman and clearly past his prime, but during the training sessions, those iconic combos still packed a punch as powerful as they were decades ago. It seemed like Tyson was focusing on quick head jabs to dodge and set up body combos, which makes me wonder if Lennox Lewis was right in predicting that Tyson would use these to wear down his younger opponent. What surprised me most, though, was how swiftly Tyson moved, particularly when compared to his rival.
In simpler terms, it’s striking to notice that Jake Paul’s workouts show a slow pace and a limited range of technical abilities compared to his contemporaries. His fastest sequence of punches was just a simple one-two combo, with little evidence of evasive maneuvers or complex techniques beyond throwing powerful blows. This raises doubts about his ability to compete against a current championship fighter. If I were him, I’d reconsider my strategy if I were to defeat Mike Tyson in the future.
Tyson Was Sweating Profusely At The End Of His Short Workout
Despite Mike Tyson appearing impressive in the ring during the sparring session, it’s worth noting that he was heavily sweating by the conclusion of the brief three-minute match. This raised some concerns for me since it seems to explain why he requested shorter rounds for the fight. If the bout lasts beyond a third round, there’s a possibility he might run out of energy early on. However, Jake Paul wasn’t in much better shape at the end of his session, which suggests that the additional weight he’s gained could influence his endurance as well.
Paul Is Bigger, And He Seemed To Be Hitting Harder
During Jake Paul’s workout, it appeared that his punches were more forceful than Mike Tyson’s. Granted, this may not signify much, but it seems evident that Paul is the stronger of the two during this particular training session. It seems to me that Paul has focused on building up his physique significantly in order to absorb Tyson’s powerful blows and potentially take control of the match in later rounds by landing some heavy-hitting punches.
Indeed, it seems plausible that the YouTuber is treating this fight with sufficient gravity to have a strategy, given the circumstances. However, his choice of wearing a chicken wig and continuing to tease “Iron Mike” during training raises doubts about how focused or serious he might be for this encounter.
On November 15th, we’ll discover which one prevails when Jake Paul and Mike Tyson square off in their Netflix-hosted fight. I can hardly wait for this matchup, and I’m still uncertain about who will emerge victorious. However, the outcome might hinge on what takes place during the early rounds, so don’t forget to keep a close eye!
