I Won’t Shut Up About The Rotten Ending Of Another Simple Favor

Spoilers ahead for Another Simple Favor, look away if you haven’t watched the mystery sequel!

Sequels can be tricky, especially when they follow beloved originals. Instead of an unexpected sequel, Paul Feig’s “Another Simple Favor” is something that fans like me have eagerly anticipated for years. The ensuing mystery (available with an Amazon Prime subscription) but considering the ominous ending of “A Simple Favor“, I needed a stronger motive explaining why characters Stephanie and Emily reunited as friends again.

The Reunion Between Emily And Stephanie Was Way Too Easy

In the original “Simple Favor” movie, the chemistry between Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively played a significant role in its success. However, by the end of the film, there was quite a bit of tension due to Stephanie sleeping with Emily’s husband and Emily attempting murder as a result. Incredibly, they managed to bury their grudge over a few witty remarks and a cocktail during “Another Simple Favor.” This surprising reconciliation left me utterly amazed while watching the sequel.

It’s clear that this plot development was necessary from a logistical standpoint. In the movie, it made sense for the two main characters to be allies as bodies began piling up during Emily’s wedding in Capri. However, I find it hard to fathom how homicide and infidelity could become trivial matters, considering Blake Lively’s character is heading to prison after the events of the first film.

In 2018, I penned a review for TopMob about “A Simple Favor,” praising director Feig’s witty mystery film ever since. It was exciting when a sequel was announced and was set to stream on Amazon, but upon watching “Another Simple Favor,” I felt it missed some of the original’s enchantment. I suspect I’m not alone in finding the dynamic between Stephanie and Emily less believable this time around. The critical reception for “Another Simple Favor” hasn’t been particularly warm.

But I’d Still Totally Watch A Third Movie.

Indeed, there’s a strong possibility that Kendrick and Lively might reprise their roles as these characters for another installment in this rapidly expanding series. The final scenes of “Another Simple Favor” hint at more adventures for Emily, who was living incognito in Italy. Upon receiving an enigmatic task from Elena Sofia Ricci’s character Portia, it appears that the narrative could take a multitude of directions in a third film.

We need to observe how many people watch the movie “Another Simple Favor,” and if Amazon chooses to produce a third film in the series directed by Paul Feig. This release took place during Blake Lively’s legal disputes with Justin Baldoni, so we’ll have to determine if any attention gained from this is beneficial publicity.

Currently, ‘Another Simple Favor’ is available for streaming on Amazon, included in their 2025 film lineup. Though I had some issues with the sequel, I’d happily catch a third edition.
