As a longtime gamer and avid fan of gritty, oil-soaked dramas, I find myself utterly captivated by Landman Season 1. Billy Bob Thornton’s portrayal of Tommy Norris, the slick middleman for a mammoth oil company, has me hooked. However, while his tale unfolds, it seems we have a plethora of intertwining narratives involving characters close to him.
Spoilers for the first four episodes of Landman Season 1 are ahead!
To date, the character Tommy Norris portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton in “Landman” has captivated me on the 2024 TV lineup. This enigmatic oil company middleman is at the heart of a complex narrative that also involves characters close to him. As we’ve progressed through Season 1, reaching Episode 4, I feel confident enough to propose this observation: It seems to me that the balance could be adjusted to show more of Cooper and less of Angela and Ainsley.
I Want To See More Of Cooper Working Out In The Field
From the start, Cooper has captivated me in an unusual way. He doesn’t fit the typical image of someone who works the fields, yet witnessing him endure pain with such determination is both challenging and incredibly intriguing. What truly sparked my interest, though, was learning that Jacob Lofland’s character aims to run his own oil company someday through this hard work.
To clarify, I’m not keen on the unusual storyline involving Cooper assisting or seemingly drawn to one of the women who lost her spouse in the initial explosion this season. Instead, I’d prefer if we could focus more on his work-related adventures.
Up until now, it seems we’ve primarily witnessed him getting injured or his teammates getting hurt. Instead, I’d love to delve deeper into his relationships with his colleagues, perhaps by observing more casual conversations, and gain insights into their camaraderie. Additionally, I’m interested in seeing more scenes where he discusses business matters with his father, and of course, I’d appreciate witnessing clear indications of him progressing within the company.
It seems like it could span quite some time. But don’t you think they might want to delve deeper into this aspect earlier on, considering we could potentially focus less on the other plot?
I Want To See Less Of Angela And Ainsley Lying Around
In examining some of the harsh feedback towards the series “Landman“, it’s evident that a significant portion of it revolves around the portrayal of women, particularly Tommy’s daughter Ainsley and ex-wife Angela. Whilst I believe these characters hold promise, I find myself aligning with the critics’ views. To this point, thus far, these female characters have mostly been seen lounging in swimwear, with the male inhabitants of Tommy’s household struggling to avoid ogling them excessively.
Frankly, it became boring almost immediately when it began, and now we’ve had to endure it for four consecutive episodes.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to see Ali Larter’s explosive ex-wife and Michelle Randolph’s daughter who is trying to figure life out. I think they have the potential to be such strong characters on the show. However, at the moment, the scripts aren’t giving them that. And I’d like them to do something other than lounge around while the men act kind of creepy around them.
It’s weird, unnecessary and a waste of screen time and two potentially phenomenal characters.
It’s fascinating to me that there might be a larger plot involving Angela and Ainsley living with Tommy. I can’t wait to explore how their move affects the entire family dynamics, especially with little Cooper in the picture. This tale certainly seems promising!
However, sadly, that hasn’t been explored on Landman yet.
In Episode 4, we caught a glimpse of the family dynamics as Angela and Tommy shared their struggles with the oil industry downturn, which was intriguing and deserved further exploration. Fingers crossed that future episodes delve deeper into this narrative, offering us more of Angela and Ainsley’s story.
You can find out if there’s more or less of each plotline by tuning in to Landman on Paramount+ every Sunday.
