I’m Excited That Elsbeth Is Bringing Back A Bunch Of Celebrity Guest Stars To End Season 2, But It Might Be Bad News For The Leading Lady

Currently, Elsbeth is taking a short break in the 2025 TV schedule, but CBS has shared some enticing updates to keep fans engaged until the next episode in early April. The popular prime-time drama known for its star-studded cast of killers is planning to bring back several celebrities for the Season 2 finale in May. I’m already looking forward to their return, but I can’t help but ponder if the influx of killers returning to the show could be indicative of Elsbeth getting into some sort of trouble within the storyline.

The Season 2 final episode, titled “Noodle Vacation,” is set to air a day earlier than expected on CBS, specifically on Thursday, May 8th. I found the title intriguing, as it appears to be a clever reference to the timeless Audrey Hepburn film “Roman Holiday“. This was reminiscent of when Elsbeth transformed herself into a character from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” for Halloween. However, the network’s description of the finale doesn’t reveal too many details. It simply states:

When Elsbeth tries to solve a murder, she comes face to face with many familiar suspects.

The episode was penned by showrunner and executive producer Jonathan Tolins, and fans won’t have to wait long (less than a month) to find out who among the familiar faces will feature in the finale. Look forward to seeing the True Blood actor who was Elsbeth’s initial murderer returning, along with some more recent visitors. Here’s a sneak peek at the roster:

  • Stephen Moyer – theater director Alex Modarian
  • Retta – matchmaker Margo Clarke
  • Gina Gershon –  plastic surgeon Dr. Vanessa Holmes
  • Elizabeth Lail – tech CEO Quinn Powell
  • Arian Moayed – bar owner Joe Dillon
  • André De Shields – fashion designer Matteo Hart
  • Alyssa Milano – mafia princess Pupetta Del Ponte

The initial episodes where all those characters were introduced can now be streamed using a Paramount+ subscription, and the upcoming finale will also feature two newcomers who haven’t appeared as Elsbeth before. Actress Mary-Louise Parker, known for her role in ‘Weeds’, will appear in the Season 2 episode on April 3, followed by Ethan Slater from ‘Wicked’ in the April 10 episode. Both will return for the finale in May. Jonathan Tolins shared some insights about what’s to come, praising the former guest stars for their exceptional dedication in returning.

Over the years, we’ve strived to create an environment where top-notch actors can showcase their talent at Elsbeth. It seems our efforts are paying off, as numerous guest stars have made time to return to us. We’re absolutely thrilled for this extraordinary reunion of Elsbeth and some of her most cherished collaborators!

In a more casual and understandable style: Elsbeth seems to get along with anyone, even criminals like those we see each week. This usually doesn’t worry me about her meeting them again. However, given Judge Milton Crawford as her main antagonist in Season 2, I can’t help but suspect that Michael Emerson’s character might plan to use these killers against Elsbeth in a court he manages. After all, if there’s anyone on this show who could manipulate someone for their own benefit, it would be Crawford.

To put it simply, I’m especially looking forward to the return of the guest stars from the initial season of Elsbeth. Since this series has turned out to be a massive success for CBS, it would be entertaining to revisit some of the early killers when Carrie Preston’s character was still finding her footing in the show.

Fortunately, it was announced that Elsbeth would be returning for Season 3 just weeks before the news about the finale’s impressive guest roster became public, so fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there are still several episodes left to enjoy before the season concludes on May 8. Catch the next episode on Thursday, April 3 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
