As a die-hard Ted Lasso fan who’s been through the rollercoaster of emotions this series has given us, I can’t help but feel like I’m back at the start of a new season – full of excitement and anticipation, yet tinged with a touch of apprehension. The news of a potential fourth season is music to my ears, but the possibility of Phil Dunster’s absence has me feeling like Roy Kent just missed another crucial pass.
Get ready to don your AFC Richmond jerseys once again as we approach the return to Nelson Road Stadium! The finale of Ted Lasso left some viewers divided; while some were content with the series ending following Season 3’s debatable decisions, others remained optimistic about potential future episodes. As one of those fans eagerly awaiting more, I was thrilled to hear that a fourth season seems increasingly likely. However, I must admit a sense of worry upon learning that Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) may not be able to participate due to scheduling conflicts.
As a dedicated gamer and fan of Ted Lasso, I’m thrilled to share that Apple TV+ has taken a significant stride in making Season 4 a reality! The deal’s been sealed with three key UK players – Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). With these talented actors on board, I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table in the upcoming season. Now, it seems like Apple TV+ is gearing up to approach Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) – represented by SAG-AFTRA. Here’s hoping for a fantastic fourth season filled with laughter, heart, and football!
Initially, it appears this update is fantastic, particularly for a sports comedy enthusiast like myself. However, upon closer inspection, I can’t help but feel disappointed that there seems to be no mention of other beloved Ted Lasso cast members who were instrumental in making the show exceptional. Topping the list is none other than Dunster, whose potential absence has been hinted at by Deadline due to scheduling issues.
The popular Jamie Tart actor from England is at present engaged in two other television series: “The Devil’s Hour” on Prime Video and “Surface” on Apple TV+. Both productions were renewed in 2022, so it could be that filming has already started or finished, but currently, it appears that the cameras haven’t started rolling for either project yet.
It’s hard to envision Ted Lasso without Dunster, considering his character’s significant transformation throughout the initial three seasons. His absence could also impact the much-discussed romantic situation involving him, Roy Kent, and Keeley Jones, which fans eagerly anticipate will be resolved in future episodes. I’m optimistic that he might reappear, even if it’s in a smaller role like a guest star.

It seems quite possible that Dunster might refuse to participate in another season first, but it’s likely others will follow suit. Despite the cast’s enthusiasm for reprising their roles, Apple TV+ has been slow to progress with the series, which may suggest that many actors have moved on to other commitments and projects, possibly leading to similar dilemmas as Dunster.
In other words, it’s possible only if they somehow included a clause in their contracts like Winona Ryder did for both Stranger Things and Beetlejuice. However, given the circumstances, it’s unlikely that these actors possess the negotiating power to do this in this specific show.
Despite the uncertainty, I plan on adopting Lasso’s “Believe” attitude and keeping my fingers crossed for a positive outcome. Keep in mind that the production team is still in its infancy, laying the groundwork for Season 4. With no writer’s room established yet, it seems like we won’t start filming until 2025 at the earliest, giving Dunster and the rest of the cast ample time to complete their existing obligations.
It’s highly unlikely that “Ted Lasso” Season 4 will air on our 2024 television lineup. However, eager fans can enjoy streaming the fantastic first three seasons of this Apple TV+ series by maintaining an active subscription.
