Despite Dylan O’Brien supposedly doing no preparation, his portrayal of Dan Aykroyd was spot-on, right down to the voice. Matt Wood perfectly captured John Belushi’s infectious energy. And Gabriel LaBelle effortlessly guided us as a youthful Lorne Michaels – simply amazing!
Instead of giving an exaggerated portrayal, these actors skillfully tapped into the core of their characters. This is exactly what director Jason Reitman aimed for. He explained to Variety that his cast was supposed to refrain from extensive preparation. So, Nicholas Podany’s ability to embody that energy so convincingly was nothing short of extraordinary.
For me, he absolutely shone with his performance. Watching him emulate a youthful version of Billy Crystal, as seen in his 1984 SNL monologue, added an intriguing and highly enjoyable layer to the act. This struggling artist trying to make it was captivating indeed.
