I’m Touched By How Cynthia Erivo Paid Tribute To Hoda Kotb During Her Last Thanksgiving Broadcast On The Air

As a dedicated viewer who has grown fond of Hoda Kotb over the years, I must say that Cynthia Erivo‘s heartfelt gesture during this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was truly touching. The infectious spirit and resilience exhibited by Kotb in the face of her impending departure from Today were evident even amidst the rainy parade route, making it all the more poignant when Erivo paid tribute to her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade marked Hoda Kotb’s last time covering the event as she is set to depart from Today in 2025. Cynthia Erivo, star of the musical Wicked, recognized this as a significant moment during her appearance on the show alongside Kotb, Al Roker, and Savannah Guthrie. Erivo’s heartfelt tribute to the long-standing morning show host left me moved.

The parade route might have been wet, mirroring the sentiments of Hoda Kotb’s fans following her announcement of departure – however, it was hard to tell from the lively grin on Kotb’s face as she co-hosted the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade alongside some of her fellow hosts from the Today show. They welcomed Cynthia Erivo to discuss the impressive box office earnings of Wicked, but before delving into the movie, Erivo chose to honor Kotb, expressing:

From the get-go, these blossoms are meant for you, as I’m aware this is your final Thanksgiving parade performance. I wished to honor this milestone and express our affection. Thank you for the tireless efforts you’ve put in throughout the years.

Cynthia Erivo presented Hoda Kotb with a big bunch of white flowers, making the host tear up because they expressed their affection by saying “I love you to the moon and back.” It was an incredibly heartwarming scene between these two, and you can tell that Kotb is still overjoyed in the picture that follows:

As a devoted fan, I must say it wasn’t expected for Cynthia Erivo to bring gifts during her interview with the Today anchors. Instead, the purpose was to honor and inspire more viewers to catch her and Ariana Grande’s film. It was truly heartwarming when she graciously took some of her time to shine a spotlight on Hoda Kotb. Her selfless act has made me admire Cynthia Erivo even more.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share the news that Hoda Kotb mentioned she will continue her association with NBC in some form after her departure from the Today show. However, it appears that participating in the Macy’s parade might not be part of her future duties. Given her desire to prioritize time with her daughters, I can understand why she would prefer spending holidays at home instead of braving the cold streets of New York City for broadcasting.

It looks like Craig Melvin might step into that role starting from November, since he’s been selected to fill in for Hoda Kotb during the first hour of Today, teaming up with Savannah Guthrie. His new position could come with an increased salary, and even though he’ll continue on NBC’s morning show during the third hour, he won’t be joining Jenna Bush Hager in the fourth hour. Instead, that segment will undergo a change and be known as “Jenna & Friends”, featuring a series of guest co-hosts.
