As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for quality entertainment, I am thrilled about the appointment of Jonathan Fischer as Imax’s Chief Content Officer. With his extensive background in various executive roles at notable studios like Illumination Entertainment, New Regency Entertainment, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Company, and most recently at Netflix, it’s clear that Fischer has a deep understanding of what makes great content.
Imax appoints Jonathan Fischer as its Chief Content Officer. His role will involve managing Imax’s content strategy, focusing on major Hollywood films, internationally acclaimed movies, and a variety of other content types.
Fischer, who has been serving as Vice President of Content Strategy & Analysis for Global Films at Netflix, will now be stationed in Playa Vista. He will directly report to Richard Gelfond, the CEO of Imax. This appointment follows Imax’s decision to appoint Anne Globe as their new Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for managing all branding, film marketing, creative, and social media activities within the company.
In an effort to bounce back from the disruptions caused by the pandemic across the broader film exhibition sector, Imax is expanding its primary selection of Hollywood blockbusters with movies in local languages like Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and those from other rapidly growing markets. Additionally, they aim to present concerts, comedy shows, and sports events that resonate well within their vast theaters.
Imax is broadening its scope to provide a wider, more varied collection of content to global audiences next year – over 100 unique, breathtaking experiences encompassing Hollywood and international movies, documentaries, music, sports, and gaming. Jonathan’s extensive background will be essential as an increasing number of filmmakers and artists aim to showcase their work on our platform,” Gelfond stated.
Fischer will take charge of Imax documentaries, live events, and other original theatrical experiences inspired by music, gaming, and sports. In his own words, he expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Rich and his exceptional team. He believes that Imax offers an unparalleled immersive entertainment experience and is eager to work with both new and established partners to deliver even more engaging content to fans.
The seasoned Hollywood executive is set to direct a group consisting of Craig Dehmel (Imax’s global distribution head), Bruce Markoe (head of Imax post-production), and John Turner (head of Imax documentaries). They will collaborate with Anne Globe, Imax’s recently appointed Chief Marketing Officer, who also reports to Gelfond. Together, they will manage all aspects related to branding, film marketing, creative endeavors, and social media for the company.
Prior to Netflix, Fischer held top-level positions including COO at both Illumination Entertainment and New Regency Entertainment. Additionally, Fischer was the president of Groundswell Productions and CFO at independent production company Intrepid Pictures. Furthermore, Fischer had executive roles at Universal Pictures and The Walt Disney Company as well.
