As a long-time gamer and movie enthusiast, I’ve seen my fair share of box office hits and misses. But Neon’s “Longlegs” has truly taken me by surprise with its impressive $22.6 million USD debut. This indie horror flick, directed by Osgood Perkins and featuring the talent of Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby, has stolen the show.
Neon’s Longlegs has debuted with an impressive $22.6 million USD in the box office.
According to Variety, Osgood Perkins’ low-budget indie horror film, titled “Longlegs,” cost around $10 million USD for production and similarly invested in marketing and distribution. Starring Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby, Neon experienced its biggest debut with this film, even surpassing the box office earnings of Columbia Pictures’ “Fly Me to the Moon.” The marketing strategy drew inspiration from the cult classic “The Blair Witch Project,” featuring an old-school website detailing the criminal acts of the movie’s serial killer and a functioning phone number that plays a chilling message from Cage’s menacing character.
Elissa Federoff, Neon’s distribution chief, expressed, “It’s been an exhilarating journey for us.” By collaborating with the film’s imaginative team, we’ve managed to create something truly unique. With a movie as innovative as this one and a well-thought-out marketing strategy tailored just for it, we can accomplish the extraordinary.
