IOI’s James Bond Origin Game 007: First Light Gets Official Announcement Trailer

During the June 2025 Sony State of Play event, the initial trailer for IO Interactive’s upcoming project was unveiled, offering a glimpse into the creative vision of the Hitman franchise team for a fresh take on a James Bond origin tale.

Any James Bond video game will always find itself compared to the legendary _GoldenEye 007_ for Nintendo 64, which played a significant role in shaping the first-person shooter genre on consoles. Luckily, there have been numerous other spy and assassin games that have stepped up to fill the gap when a new Bond game didn’t meet expectations.

007 First Light Is an Explosive New Origin Story For James Bond

It’s A Fresh Era For MI6

The trailer for it has been uploaded onto the official PlayStation YouTube page. This trailer primarily focuses on the narrative, occasionally breaking it up with snippets of action scenes.

007: First Light presents a youthful James Bond, recently discharged from the Royal Navy and recruited by MI6. He undergoes training within the secret agency, interacting with familiar figures such as Q and Moneypenny in refreshed versions.

But What About 007 First Light’s Gameplay?

Players Can’t Pick Oddjob This Time Around

IO Interactive, known for creating the Hitman series, has undeniably channeled its expertise into the game 007 First Light. It’s evident that the team has skillfully incorporated elements such as stealth and assassinations of guards, a trait often seen in the Hitman games. Interestingly, there’s a suggestion of a car chase sequence too, which aligns more with the style of Bond movies.

The trailer suggests that the antagonist might be a corrupted agent, since it’s revealed that character 009 plays the villain. This may resemble the scenario in “GoldenEye 007,” where Bond is assigned to eliminate a turned ally.

007 enthusiasts should prepare for a delay before they can don this fresh spy’s footwear, as 007 First Light is scheduled for release in 2026. A sneak peek of gameplay is set to be unveiled later in the summer, offering fans a closer look at the tools and gadgets Bond will utilize on his upcoming mission.
