In the latest Thunderbolts poster, there’s a cunning addition: Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man makes another appearance before his debut as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. The poster showcases the silhouettes of the six newly-named New Avengers strolling, with the shadow of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s original six Avengers visible on the ground behind each of them.
The poster matches Bucky Barnes with a reflection of Downey’s Iron Man, which could be unexpected for fans, considering Bucky’s extensive background with Captain America and his complicated past with Tony Stark.
In a somewhat logical twist, it seemed fitting to team up John Walker’s U.S. Agent with Steve Rogers instead. The other New Avengers and Avengers pairings include Sentry with Thor, Yelena with Black Widow, Red Guardian with Hulk, and Ghost with Hawkeye.
This poster subtly echoes the style of the “Avengers: Endgame” poster, showcasing the vague outlines of the original six superheroes. However, unlike its inspiration, the image is not an exact replica – for example, the Iron Man silhouette in this version has broader shoulders compared to his shadowy representation in “Thunderbolts.
As I sit here reflecting on the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe installment, I can’t help but feel exhilarated. In the thrilling climax of *Thunderbolts*, now rechristened as *The New Avengers*, I witnessed Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) officially bestow the title upon our new team. This fresh ensemble, featuring none other than Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and the inimitable Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is joined by a roster of beloved MCU underdogs and outcasts. It’s going to be quite a ride!
Why Are Bucky and Iron Man Paired Up?
In the climactic battle of “Captain America: Civil War,” it appears unusual for Iron Man, who was enraged by Bucky’s role in killing Tony Stark’s parents (as the Winter Soldier), and Bucky himself, to find themselves as a team, given that Steve Rogers hadn’t informed Tony about this fact earlier.
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that while they appear different at first glance, there are several shared traits between them. Both characters strive to correct past mistakes; Tony Stark knowingly chose his actions, whereas Bucky Barnes was compelled by circumstances beyond his control.
Bucky and Stark are both original members of their respective teams, with Tony Stark appearing prior to any other Avenger, and Bucky Barnes debuting before any other New Avenger. They were both introduced during Phase 1, and Sebastian Stan has played the role of Bucky in at least one production from each subsequent phase.
Beyond this, both characters harbor deep-seated feuds with their own team’s Captain America – Tony Stark and Steve Rogers for Bucky Barnes, and John Walker for Tony Stark. However, when it comes to serving the team, they are prepared to set aside these personal conflicts if the situation demands it.
