Iron Suit

The list of armored superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded with more official members. Disney+ confirmed four new additions to the expanding “Iron Suit” family, a group that draws inspiration from Iron Man’s legendary armor. This revelation solidifies the roles of certain key characters from recent Marvel productions who have adopted their own suits.

Ever since Iron Man kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, armored suits have stood as a symbol of innovation rather than warfare. From a humble creation in a cave made from scrap materials to advanced technology straight from Wakanda, these iron suits have played pivotal roles in shaping significant moments within the MCU. Now, Disney+ is honoring this legacy by showcasing their Iron Suit Collection, highlighting four heroes who’ve continued to uphold the tradition.

MCU Heroes Who Comprise the “Iron Suit” Family

Iron Man

The story unfolded when Tony Stark, a brilliant billionaire inventor, entered the scene. He’s the one who designed the Iron Man suit and left an indelible mark on the world and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Among his contributions to the MCU are the movies , , and . He also starred in significant team-up films such as , , , , and .

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the transformation of the character in “Endgame” from an irresponsible weapons creator into a selfless protector of the world. This transition not only shaped the Infinity Saga but also encapsulated what it truly meant to don the suit and safeguard humanity. The legacy of this iconic figure is still thriving, with Riri Williams endeavoring to embody the Iron Man role on Disney+.

War Machine

James Rhodes, portrayed by Don Cheadle, was among the initial individuals to follow in Tony Stark’s path. In the film “Iron Man 2”, he adopted a refined version of Tony’s technology, transforming into War Machine, a military-oriented counterpart characterized by robust weaponry and battlefield expertise.

Later on, he took up the Iron Patriot alias in “Iron Man 3”, although it didn’t last. Subsequently, he worked alongside the Avengers in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, and “Avengers: Endgame”. Interestingly, he was also part of Team Iron Man during “Captain America: Civil War”.

It’s unfortunate that the latest appearance of Rhodey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was during “Secret Invasion,” where it was disclosed that he had been a Skrull in disguise as far back as “Civil War.” This unexpected twist stirred up controversy among fans, who felt it tarnished years of heroic acts by suggesting an imposter was behind them.

Iron Spider

The story of Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland, donning the Iron Spider suit, started when Tony Stark presented him with this suit in Avengers: Infinity War. The suit was technologically advanced, boasting additional abilities and robotic spider limbs.

Initially introduced in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and extensively employed in “Infinity War” and “Endgame”, the Iron Spider armor significantly boosted Peter’s abilities when confronting alien antagonists. The Iron Spider armor remained in use throughout “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “No Way Home”. Much like Iron Man, the Iron Spider suit is now obsolete, as Peter has a stunning new red and blue suit following his third movie.

Ironheart

In the latest development, Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams has been inducted into the Iron Suit lineage. Making her debut in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” she subsequently stole the limelight in a six-episode run of her standalone series titled “Ironheart.” This new chapter signifies her formal ascension as the inheritor of Stark’s inventive prowess, and hints at her potential to reshape the very essence of what it entails to be an armored protector.

In the final episode of Ironheart, Riri Williams decisively distances herself from Tony Stark’s legacy following a chilling confrontation with Mephisto (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen), who tempted her with power and acknowledgment. Previously, she had sought to emulate Iron Man, but in the end, Riri succumbed to Mephisto’s manipulative proposal, suggesting that she yearns to carve out a unique path instead of repeating the journey of one of the MCU’s most famous and respected characters.

The Disney+ Iron Man Armor Collection gathers a carefully chosen selection of crucial Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, following the journey of the armored heroes from the entire Iron Man trilogy and key Avengers films to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Civil War, and the entire Ironheart series. It also features animated tales like What If…?, providing new perspectives on these legendary characters.

Riri Williams stepped up as the potential heir of the Iron Suit dynasty, with the Armor Wars seemingly stalled or possibly even scrapped in development. Earlier, Cheadle’s War Machine had been set to continue Tony Stark’s work, but Marvel Studios has remained silent on the project following the release and criticism of Secret Invasion.

Simultaneously, Riri’s journey unfolds as Ironheart takes a daring turn, combining advanced Stark technology with dark sorcery. Regarding her character’s future, actress Dominique Thorne from Ironheart hinted at a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, suggesting that “things might just work out for us.
