As a devoted admirer of the cinematic world, I find myself deeply moved by the poignant journey of Shoojit Sircar, a director who not only weaves enchanting tales on the silver screen but also embodies profound empathy off it. His recent film, “I Want To Talk,” resonates with a poignancy that transcends the confines of the movie theatre, reflecting his personal experiences and losses.
Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, a close friend of the late Irrfan Khan, has disclosed that the actor grappled with mental struggles in his fight against cancer. Additionally, he confessed to feeling a strong sense of obligation towards Irrfan’s son, Babil.
During a chat with ETimes, director Shoojit Sircar was posed a question related to his movie ‘I Want To Talk’, where the main character is diagnosed with cancer and given a limited time to live. He was asked what he would do if he himself was in such a situation. In response, he shared a personal story about a friend who successfully fought cancer mentally, unlike Irrfan Khan.
After Irrfan was diagnosed with cancer, I frequently talked to him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to win the mental fight against it. In contrast, his friend, who was initially given only 100 days to live, has now been alive for over 10,800 days. Interestingly, after Irrfan passed away, this friend decided to create a film to help those dealing with mental health issues similar to what Irrfan faced.
As an ardent admirer putting words to my feelings, let me share that the esteemed director I spoke with expressed not only his desire to discuss Irrfan Khan, but also his profound sense of duty towards Irrfan’s son, Babil Khan. He confided that while he has frequently reminisced about Irrfan, his primary concern at present is centered on Babil.
As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I take it upon myself to lead, encourage, and bolster Babil. I feel the weight of responsibility for his growth, fostering his self-assurance, and providing him with unwavering support. Upon my return from Goa, our paths will cross again, and we’ll have a heart-to-heart discussion aimed at delving deeper into his journey.
Previously, during an interview on India Today, he expressed deep sorrow over the demise of his dear friend Irrfan Khan. Even after a considerable amount of time, Shoojit confessed that the remorse connected to Irrfan’s death persistently lingers, impeding him from finding peace. He openly acknowledged grappling with intense feelings of grief and guilt, uncertain about how to overcome them.
In my perspective, the filmmaker underscored the unique and indispensable role Irrfan played, not only in his artistic endeavors but also in his personal life. As I grapple with the reality of his absence, Shoojit, my friend, has candidly shared the profound emotional impact this loss has had on him.
In this movie titled “Meanwhile, I Want To Talk,” Abhishek Bachchan acts alongside Pearle Dey, Ahilya Bamroo, Jayant Kripalani, Kristin Goddard, and Johny Lever in significant roles. Shoojit Sircar is the director, while Ritesh Shah takes care of the screenplay. The film is produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.
Currently showing in cinemas, this everyday life drama is gaining recognition for its compelling acting and narrative, particularly Abhishek Bachchan who’s garnered universal praise for his role.
