As a long-time horror enthusiast who has seen their fair share of slasher flicks, I can confidently say that the return of Patrick Dempsey as Mark Kincaid in Scream 7 is a move that’s been long overdue. The chemistry between Dempsey and Neve Campbell, both on and off-screen, is palpable, and their reunion in this upcoming film promises to be a thrilling ride.
For decades now, the horror genre has been flourishing, bringing immense delight to fans such as myself. Some top-notch horror films have resurfaced with sequels, including “Scream”. The seventh installment is currently in the works and is generating a lot of buzz among horror enthusiasts. However, there’s speculation about whether Patrick Dempsey will reprise his role as Mark Kincaid. Here’s an update from the renowned actor who’s best known for “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Information regarding Scream 7 is scarce, but the dedicated fanbase rejoiced upon hearing that Neve Campbell would reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, following her absence in Scream VI. During an interview on The Today Show, Dempsey was questioned about his potential return as Sidney’s husband, to which he responded:
I’m currently anticipating the script for further discussion. There has been a dialogue regarding it, but as of now, I haven’t received anything. So, time will tell what transpires. However, you may recall Neve Campbell, who portrayed my sister on Grey’s Anatomy, and we collaborated nearly 26 or 27 years ago. That project was from ’98 or ’99.
Hey there! It looks like things could be looking up. Though he hasn’t officially agreed yet, there have been discussions about bringing back Dempsey to reprise his role from Scream 3 (which is now available on Max with a subscription). I sure hope they work out a deal soon so we can catch up with Sidney and Mark as a married couple. After all, we learned in the latest Scream movie that they’re now hitched with kids! Fingers crossed for more horror-filled moments ahead!
Dempsey pointed out that Campbell portrayed one of McDreamy’s sisters on “Grey’s Anatomy” following their collaboration in the third “Scream” movie. Their on-screen relationship appears to be quite dynamic, and given that Campbell is a significant character in the Scream series, fans have been eagerly anticipating his return to the screen. During an interview on “Today”, he appeared open to the idea of reprising his role for “Scream 7”, expressing his readiness by stating:
Yeah, I mean, you know, it’s always good to have a job.
Indeed, it appears that the timing is favorable to reintegrate Dempsey into the Scream series. Following Dewey’s demise in the fifth film, there’s a vacancy for a seasoned character in Scream 7. Given that Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega won’t return, the movie could benefit from additional celebrity influence.
McDreamy re-enters the realm of slasher films, featuring prominently in the current streaming release “Thanksgiving“. Given this, it might be enticing to engage once more with Ghostface and join forces with Neve Campbell again. If you’re game, we’ll need to wait and find out whether he manages to endure the terrors of this horror movie.
The seventh installment of “Scream” is tentatively scheduled for a theater release on February 27, 2026. In the meantime, take a look at the upcoming horror movie releases in 2025 to help you plan your next spine-tingling cinema experience.
