As an ardent admirer and historian at heart, I find myself utterly captivated by the tale of Saif Ali Khan and his ancestral abode, the Pataudi Palace. The rich tapestry of history, family values, and personal sentiments that weave this majestic structure together is nothing short of mesmerizing.
After Saif Ali Khan reclaimed his ancestral estate, the Pataudi Palace, talks have swirled about him potentially transforming a portion of it into a museum displaying his family’s heritage. Nevertheless, he squashed these rumors, indicating that the palace holds immense personal significance for him. He clarified that his father is laid to rest there, and his ambition is to refurbish the property while maintaining its original character.
During an interview with India Today, the actor from Devara discussed the historical significance of the Pataudi Palace. He explained, “Throughout history, this house has been owned by various individuals. My father was born as a nawab, he lived as a nawab, and he was an extraordinary man. He recognized that times have changed, so he chose to lease the palace to a hotel… I recall my grandmother advising me not to do such a thing. It’s steeped in history, and that is something I hold dear.
He shared that the estate carries a profound emotional significance for him, being the place where his grandparents and father were laid to rest, making it his family’s home. Despite the older parts being known as “darbar halls,” he finds this term dated and prefers to rename it the “long room,” drawing inspiration from the hall at Lord’s.
He shared that the house was constructed by the seventh Nawab of Pataudi along with his father, and expressed a desire to display their cricket memorabilia there. Restoring the house in a way that honors their legacy has been a long-time dream of his, which is now nearly complete.
Previously, during an interview on the Housing.com YouTube channel with Cyrus Broacha, Soha Ali Khan revealed that her mother, Sharmila Tagore, oversees the family finances to maintain smooth operations. She elaborated that Tagore monitors daily and monthly expenses, noting a preference for whitewashing over painting in Pataudi as it proves more economical.
Soha added that they’ve held off on buying anything new recently, stressing that the building’s design is what captivates them, rather than its contents.
