Is The Scarlet Witch Movie Really Happening? Agatha All Along Creator Offers Honest Thoughts

As a seasoned Marvel fanatic with decades of superhero adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the prospect of a Scarlet Witch movie is not just wishful thinking – it’s an inevitable reality! With Elizabeth Olsen masterfully breathing life into the enigmatic Wanda Maximoff for over a decade, it feels like we’ve been on this journey together. From her humble beginnings as a reluctant Sokovian refugee to her transformation into the formidable Scarlet Witch, she has captivated our hearts and left us craving more.

2024 signifies a decade since I first witnessed Elizabeth Olsen bring the enigmatic character, Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, through the end-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Her formal introduction came in 2015 with the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the 11th movie in the series. To date, Olsen has graced our screens with her portrayal of the character in eight different appearances, including exclusive shows on Disney+ like WandaVision and What If… ?. The buzz around Hollywood is that a Scarlet Witch movie might be joining the lineup of future Marvel productions. Jac Schaeffer, the creative mind behind Agatha All Along, has recently shared her thoughts on this exciting possibility.

As the showrunner of “WandaVision”, Schaeffer played a crucial role in shaping a significant part of Wanda’s storyline within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The events from that series paved the way for her character’s involvement in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Given this background, it’s reasonable to assume she might have insights about the upcoming Scarlet Witch movie. However, when Variety inquired about the project’s start date during the premiere of “Agatha All Along”, she didn’t provide an answer.

[Grins] I guess I can’t hide it, I’m really rooting for a Scarlet Witch film! It seems we all share the same sentiment, crossing our fingers in hope that this becomes a reality someday.

As a devoted fan, I’ve heard whispers that my favorite writer, Megan McDonnell, along with Schaeffer, might be working on a Scarlet Witch movie! If this gossip is true, Schaeffer remains tight-lipped, but it’s clear she’s thrilled about Wanda Maximoff stealing the cinematic limelight. Marvel Studios’ silence shouldn’t surprise us, given their penchant for secrecy. They typically share such news at big events like San Diego Comic-Con and D23, or only when major publications like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter break the story.

Undeterred, interviewer Marc Malkin inquired from Jac Schaeffer if she believes the Scarlet Witch film will materialize, to which she responded affirmatively.

Currently, I’m finding myself in a mystical setting akin to Agatha’s realm, where visibility is somewhat limited due to the dense foliage. However, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it appeared as though Wanda had met her demise when she destroyed Mount Wundagore, effectively annihilating all copies of the Darkhold throughout the Marvel multiverse. However, given that we’re discussing a superhero tale here, it’s important to note that without seeing a body (and even then, there’s no guarantee), a character’s death is rarely definitive. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Scarlet Witch reappeared in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, especially considering the rumors surrounding her upcoming movie.

At present, it’s undecided whether Wanda Maximoff will star in her own film, but should that project become formalized, we’ll make sure to inform you. In the interim, the first two installments of Agatha All Along are set to debut tomorrow at 6 pm PT, followed by the remaining five episodes on a weekly basis according to the 2024 TV schedule, with the final two episodes slated for October 30.
