Many ex-athletes have established themselves in the glamorous world of Hollywood, not just through unexpected appearances. Travis Kelce has already garnered fame as an NFL standout and Taylor Swift’s partner, but he aims to carve out a lasting career in Hollywood as well, further enriching his legacy.
As a seasoned movie critic, I’ve seen my fair share of athletes dabbling in Hollywood, but Travis Kelce is truly carving out a niche for himself. Known for his stellar performances on the football field as a tight-end for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce is now stepping into the producer’s chair for the independent film “My Dead Friend Zoe.” This long-awaited production will make its debut this week on the 2025 Movie Schedule.
Producer Paul Scanlan, who has seen his fair share of talent, shared his optimistic views on Kelce’s Hollywood future, telling People that it looks promising, stating, “Travis is a natural. His passion and dedication are undeniable, and I have no doubt he will make a significant impact in the industry.
His presence in our project has undeniably made a positive impact, so I can confidently say yes to having him around. He’s an amiable individual and a skilled actor, as demonstrated by the quality of his past work. Moreover, he excels as a producer too.
Given the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing defeat in this year’s Super Bowl, it’s likely that the football player is eager to redirect his energies towards his impending film ventures. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of opportunities for him to do so! Apart from the upcoming cinema release of “My Dead Friend Zoe“, Travis Kelce has also secured a role in Adam Sandler’s sequel to “Happy Gilmore“. A sneak peek at the trailer reveals Kelce as a waiter, alongside other famous guest appearances.
I’ve got a bit of acting experience under my belt now, not just because of my recent debut in Ryan Murphy’s show, Grotesquerie, but also because I hosted SNL back in 2023. In fact, hosting that show was my first taste of acting and the MVP confessed in an interview that it opened up a new avenue of joy and career prospects for him. Being part of Kelce’s SNL dress rehearsal audience, I must say he truly shone like a natural performer out there.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d say it’s clear that Travis Kelce has shown he’s just as skilled off-field when it comes to directing, perhaps even more so. Scanlan elaborated on the crucial part Kelce played in the film’s triumph:
He significantly contributes to our project by skillfully drawing attention and highlighting its worthiness. He’s generously inclined, demonstrating typical Midwestern characteristics. His actions suggest a strong desire to work on meaningful projects. Having him as part of the team has been instrumental in furthering our objective – spreading this film to a wider audience where it can truly make an impact.
A well-known name can certainly give a project a boost, but Kelce’s involvement seems to extend beyond mere promotion. He appears to be genuinely invested in this film, and during the same interview, he expressed his desire to continue working on projects like “My Dead Friend Zoe” that not only promote but also make a significant impact.
Last year at SXSW, a film directed by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes was unveiled, boasting a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This production stars Sonequa Martin-Green from ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ as a character grappling with the demise of her comrade and friend Zoe, played by Natalie Morales. Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris lend their talents to supporting roles. The trailer suggests that the movie tackles death in a mix of funny and poignant manners, making me eager to include it on my ‘To Be Watched’ list.
It’s apparent that Travis Kelce is keen on staying updated with the latest trends in filmmaking, and I’m eagerly anticipating the trajectory of his Hollywood journey upon his football retirement. Although it seems unlikely that he’ll retire immediately (it doesn’t seem like his style to leave post a Super Bowl defeat), such a move would offer him ample opportunities to explore his talents within the industry, and also afford him more time with his high-profile popstar partner.
It seems quite likely that there might be an appearance by the Chiefs MVP in the movie “My Dead Friend Zoe“, too. Keep your eyes peeled for him when you watch it in cinemas this coming Friday.
