As a devoted fan of gripping dramas with a hint of realism, I am thrilled about Netflix’s acquisition of “Bad Boy,” an Israeli series inspired by a true story. Having followed the career of Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Ron Leshem, who brought us the acclaimed “Euphoria” and is now serving as showrunner for this project, I have high expectations.
Netflix gains worldwide streaming permission for the gripping Israeli drama series titled “Bad Boy,” created by Ron Leshem and Hagar Ben-Asher.
In 2025, an eight-episode show is set to debut worldwide. It will initially air on the Israeli channel HOT, after which it will become available in Netflix’s 190 countries. The series features Daniel Chen, Havtamo Farda, and Guy Manster as its main stars.
Based on real-life events, the film “Bad Boy” centers around the character Dean. In his younger days, he endured a harsh stint in a juvenile detention center. There, he forms an unlikely friendship with a teenage inmate serving time for murder. Fast forward twenty years, and Dean has become a successful comedian. However, he is determined to conceal his past imprisonment from the public eye.
Renowned screenwriter Ron Leshem, who has been nominated for an Academy Award, is most recognized for his contributions to the Israeli television series “Euphoria”. This very show served as inspiration for Sam Levinson’s HBO production. In this new venture, Leshem will take on the role of showrunner for the series. The series is penned and directed by Hagar Ben-Asher, who has previously worked on projects such as “The Slut”, “Mish’olim” and “Dead Women Walking”.
The film “Bad Boy” is jointly funded and produced by The North Road Company and Sipur, acting as co-producers. Alongside them, HOT (Israeli Broadcaster) and Tedy Productions are responsible for the production of this project.
