I’ve Noticed A Lot Of Stranger Things Fans Are Starting To Have The Same Request About Season 5, And I Couldn’t Agree More

In the past week, we were treated to a sneak peek of Stranger Things Season 5, which came loaded with thrilling moments in its action-packed trailer. Glimpsing into the concluding episodes of this Netflix series has me buzzing with anticipation for the grand finale of one of their top-tier shows. Yet, I find myself preoccupied with a desire that fans have been discussing fervently, and it’s a wish I share too.

I’m Totally With Fans Calling For The Stranger Things Finale To Go To Theaters

Examining the internet buzz surrounding the trailer for Stranger Things Season 5, I found a surge of viewers expressing their desire to watch the finale on the big screen. Here’s a glimpse:

  • “i would love to watch stranger things in theaters. i can just imagine” – @ttieraam
  • “They should put the final season of Stranger Things in the movie theaters imo” – @jeana_ambrosio
  • “stranger things should’ve just put the series finale in movie theaters” – @carltheswiftie_
  • “If Netflix wants to be smart they would put the series final of stranger things in theaters on new years but they won’t do that because they aren’t as smart as I am” – @jewelpaint
  • “@netflix YOU NEED TO GET STRANGER THINGS 5 IN THEATERS. AT LEAST THE FINALE!!!!!” – @jacobsiroin

In the realm of 2025 Netflix releases, “Stranger Things” stands out as a compelling choice for home viewing. However, this acclaimed series has grown increasingly cinematic with each season, sparking discussions among fans about the possibility of watching the climactic final episode (scheduled for release on Netflix on New Year’s Eve) in a movie theater alongside fellow “Stranger Things” enthusiasts. Such an event could potentially become a box office sensation if managed correctly by the streaming service.

Why Stranger Things Probably Won’t Go To Theaters

Given that context, I must admit I’m not optimistic about it occurring, given Netflix’s past with cinemas. Earlier this year, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos labeled movie theaters as “outdated.” However, Netflix has previously released some of its films in theaters before they became available on the streaming platform, at the request of their filmmakers such as Alfonso Cuaron for Roma and Rian Johnson for the sequel to Knives Out, Glass Onion. Even so, the director hopes to screen the third movie on the big screen as well.

The main cause that Netflix films seldom appear in cinemas is due to exhibitors desiring an exclusive period when audiences can only view something in theaters, while Netflix has previously resisted this and not offered its movies a fair chance on the big screen. This contrasts with other streaming platforms such as Amazon and Apple, which have been more effective at negotiating compromises with cinemas to premiere their films first (such as the recent screening of F1).

Instead, I’d be thrilled to catch the finale of Stranger Things with friends at the cinema, but considering we might need to make do with home viewing parties instead, it seems. The first volume of the final season premieres on November 26, followed by Volume 2 on Netflix on Christmas Day and the grand finale on December 31. Given that many of us will likely be together with loved ones during the holiday season, it looks like we’ll have ample opportunities to share this experience at home!
