IWC Reveals a Limited-Edition Portofino Automatic Moon Phase Timepiece for the Year of the Snake

As a seasoned watch enthusiast who has spent countless hours poring over timepieces that embody both artistry and functionality, I find myself captivated by the latest offering from IWC – the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake edition. Having had the privilege to witness various iterations of Lunar New Year editions, I must say that this year’s design is nothing short of breathtaking.

As we approach the Lunar New Year, falling at the end of January 2025, IWC has unveiled its latest watch, themed for the Year of the Snake.

In line with the 2024 Year of the Dragon edition, the most recent festive watch shares the same burgundy and gold color scheme. Unlike its predecessor, which was an elegant update to the Portugieser Chronograph, the Year of the Snake edition is rooted in the Portofino model and comes equipped with a moonphase complication.

This watch is housed within a 37mm stainless steel casing, featuring a rich burgundy dial adorned with golden accents. The minute track, hour markers, leaf-shaped hands, logos, and even the stars and moon are all beautifully embellished in gold.

The zodiac animal is integrated into the custom oscillating weight as a hand-engraved design, where it’ll swivel around the 32800 in-house caliber with every turn of the wrist. The movement is partly exhibited through the open sapphire caseback and is equipped with a 5-day power reserve.

Apart from the black leather band, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake edition also features an additional burgundy calfskin strap for a harmonious appearance. This exclusive timepiece is only available in 500 pieces and can be purchased through IWC at a price of $9,700 USD.
