As someone who’s spent years navigating the bustling streets of New York City, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see the J. Crew x Engineered Garments collaboration. The fusion of New York’s streetwear spirit with the traditional elegance of Ivy League style, all underpinned by Japanese craftsmanship, is a delightful blend that resonates deeply with my personal style evolution.
With Brendon Babenzien leading the way, J. Crew has been quite active in collaborations since he joined the team in 2021. The brand has partnered with streetwear brands such as BEAMS PLUS and UNION LA to create joint collections that have refreshed its traditional style. Now, under Babenzien’s influence, J. Crew is teaming up with Daiki Suzuki’s Engineered Garments on another project, blending the vibe of New York City with New England, all while showcasing Japanese craftsmanship.
This capsule encompasses retro workwear, timeless Ivy League styles, and practical outerwear. Each piece in the collection, in a classic Engineered Garments style, includes tactical elements incorporated thoughtfully into its design.
At the front of the capsule, a navy-blue corduroy suit jacket and trousers make a striking appearance. The jacket boasts a casual yet refined fit, with patch pockets made from high-quality cotton corduroy. Meanwhile, the trousers, featuring a single reverse pleat, are also crafted from the same durable material.
In terms of outerwear designs, this duo introduces a parka jacket styled after military motifs. This robust piece features several practical elements such as a versatile two-way zipper with snap flap, concealed Velcro-fastened pockets, an adjustable hood, and zippered vents under the arms.
A variety of trouser shapes reinforce this launch, such as the loose-fitting cargo pants – constructed using Engineered Garments’ distinctive pocket placements – and the traditional American style double-pleated khakis.
Take a peek at the exclusive J. Crew x Engineered Garments collection showcased in the lookbook above, and grab it quickly while supplies last at the J. Crew online store.
